WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 20, 1924 10 N. T. CAGERS WALLOP SENN Chicagoans Easy Victims for Local Lads New Trier basket ball fans had the pleasure of seeing the home teams walk all over Senn high school of Chicago in New Trier's second contest 'of the vear on the home. floor Friday, Decem- ber 12. The north shore boys walloped all four Chicago teams, the scores beng: New Trier Lightweights (First Team) 33, Senn 21, New Trier Heavyweights First Team) 34, Senn 9; New Trier [Lightweights (Second Team) 26, Senn 5S: New Trier Heavyweights (Second Team) 17, Senn 6. ! This was the first victory of the season for the New Trier first heavy- weights. They showed a marked im- provement due to the strenuous practice during the past 'week. Their triumph might be laid largely to McFadzean, Copeland and Tauer. In the first few minutes of the game, before New Trier began to play, Senn ran up a score of seven points, but within a short time the figures were even, and at the end of the half New Trier led with a score of17 to..7. The second half was very much a repetition of the first, except that Mc- Fadzean and Lauer broke loose, the former sinking four baskets and the latter three. During this period the cnly scores which the Senn five were able to make were two free throws by Hill, and these were due largely to the kind efforts of Captain Martin. The lightweight firsts showed up in fine style and seem to give promise of being a championship team. Mickey Iimrich was the outstanding player, mak- ing eight baskets during the game. Josie Paletti also displayed good form until he was taken out on personals. Emrich scored within a minute after the game opened and it was a onesided game throughout, the baskets following in rapid succession, Sheldon making two of the eight ringers during the first half. Choristers to Radiocast Xmas Carols December 24 Just as it has been an old-fashioned custom in England, Germany and France for centuries for the humbler members of a community to go about 'at Christmas time singing carols, more particularly, in those countries, 'under the windows of the so-called aristocracy, so this year choristers from Northwestern University School of Music. set a custom in the United States of radio-broadcasting Yule- 'time songs {rom The Chicago Daily News station. This season the radio caroling started the night of Decem- ber 17, with another special program of somewhat different nature planned for Christmas eve, December 24. Under the personal direction of Dean Peter C. Lutkin, the A Cappella choir of Northwestern university sang this week. Through the special kindness of The Chicago Daily News, the North- western university program for Christ- mas eve, December 24, will probably run for forty minutes. the first part a program of readings by one of the most popular of Chicago entertainers and the balance musical numbers under the direction of Prof. Loyal Phillips Shawe, professor of voice culture at Northwestern University School of Music. Champ Sprinter Addresses Boys' Group at New Trier Ray Fitch, who broke the world's rec- crd for the 400 meter run at the Olym- pic games last summer, was the speaker at a meeting of two of the boys' advisor groups at New Trier high school last week. He told of the experiences of the teams on the way overseas and of their trials and triumphs at the games. Fitch broke the world's record in the 400 meter run one morning. His time was 47 4-5 seconds. In the afternoon he was to race again. He made the same time at this trial but was beaten by one-fifth of a second by Liddell, of Scotland. The boys made a very en- thusiastic audience and enjoyed Fitch's story immensely.
