WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, JANUARY 24, 1925 1 Two Well Known Artists to Give Club Musicale RS. Norman Harris, chairman of the music committee of the Win- netka Woman's club announces an unusually interesting program for Thursday afternoon, February 5, at 2:30 o'clock. Joseph Brinkman, pianist, and Robert W. Quick, violinist, will give a joint recital. Robert Sanders will be the accompanist. Mr. Brinkman received a brilliant ova- tion when he appeared as soloist with the Chicago Symphony orchestra on the afternoon of Friday, December 5. and Saturday evening, December 6, of this season. Mr. Quick has just won the violin contest held by the Society of American Musicians and will appear as soloist with the orchestra at one of the popular concerts in February. The pro- gram given by these artists will be an- nounced next week. The March program department will be a Clara M. Sheville. iG The MacDowell Musical Club of Win- netka met at the home of Mrs. Paul C. Seyl, 279 Ridge avenue, on Monday afternoon, January 12. A program of English music was given. The quartet of the Glencoe Union church added greatly to the program by singing a number of negro spirituels. Boyden of 725 Pine street gave a dinner Tuesday evening for Miss Sarah Wambaugh whose interesting talks on the Ieague of Nations are creating such favorable comment. Miss Wambaugh is a gradu- ate of Radcliffe college. The other guests were Mr. and Mrs. William Hale, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen A. Foster, Mr. and Mrs. H. A. de Windt, and Laird Bell. Miss Wambaug goes from here to Denver. --O Mrs. K.W. Curtis of 693 Walden road with her children and her mother, Mrs. Allen, have left for an extended trip to Arizona and California. Mrs. Heyliger de Windt of 205 Chest- nut street gave a luncheon on Wednes- day for her daughter, Mrs. Randolph Owsley. The following were guests: Mrs. Albert S. Gardner, Miss Helen Davis, Mrs. Frederick Copeland, Miss Betty Copeland, Mrs. Barbara Dole, Miss Caddie Lloyd, Miss Sarah Bennett, Mrs. Edawrd Brasshear, and Miss Nor- val Allen. . a Mr. and Mrs. A, E. Tilroe of 987 Oak street arrived in the village last Saturday from Adel, Ga., accompanied by their son, Alfred, who underwent a serious operation -there. Alfred and his father, left for Florida in December, but he was taken ill while en route. His many friends in Winnetka will be glad that he is back and is rapidly recovering. --_--Q-- On Thursday afternoon, January 22, Mrs. William W. Norris of Hubbard Woods gave a sleigh-ride party for her grandson, Norris. The guests included several of the groups of the Hawthorn School children. After the ride they re- turned to the school building for hot chocolate before the open fire. BR 20 Mrs. Walter H. Niemann of 1097 Ash street has returned to the village after spending two weeks with her par ents at Spring Lake, Mich. She 'eaving February 3 for a visit of several weeks in Ft. Lauderdale and Miami, Fla., as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Blair of Rogers Park. PT Mrs. Stanley Clague of 821 Mich- 'gan avenue, Evanston, formerly of Win- netka, has been called east on account of the illness of her father, Rev. R. E. Birks of Bernardson, Mass. Her son and his bride, Mr. and Mrs. Coleman Clague, have been visiting in Evanston during the past two weeks. oo. The Walden Road circle will meet with Mrs. Raymond Doonan at 1086 Spruce street, Monday, January 26, at 2 o'clock. A large attendance is hoped for. Agnes Mathis Cherry will give a dramatic reading, and Mrs. William Merriman will sing a group of songs. --n On January 12 an interesting program was given by the pupils of Winifred Townsend Cree of 779 Foxdale avenue. The recital was held in the afternoon and showed the progress the children have made this fall. EO Mrs. Walter Bemis and Mrs. J. M.
