New Trier is Second in Cage Tournament Playing as it had never played bhe- fore, New Trier's basketball team took second place in the district tour- nament at Highland Park last Friday and Saturday. The boys, in rapid suc- cession, beat Morton, Deerfield and Hinsdale, and put up a splendid fight in the finals against the ponderous Waukegan five. Having disposed of Morton in the first round, they took on Deerfield, and went into the semi-finals by beat- ing them, 22-17. New Trier won its third victory in two days by beating the much talked of Hinsdale team by the score of 28-19. The Green and Gray quintet then ran up against a stone wall, however, when they tackled the heavy Wauke- gan five, and were beaten 24-15 Satur- day before a capacity crowd at Deer- field-Shields high school. New Trier put up a hard battle and made the vic- tors fight for their laurels but were forced to take second place in the tourney. New Trier Tank Men Top Rockford 30-29 New Trier high school's champion senior swimming team journeyed to Rockford last Saturday where they defeated the Rockford mermen by a score of 30-29. Rockford is considered a tough nut for any swimming team to crack and had the advantage of being in its home pool. The champions were at a great dis- advantage in the 75 foot pool, which is 15 feet longer than Lake New Trier. Moeller, who is rapidly joining the ranks of Wray and other former New Trier breast stroke stars, again won the 100 yd. breast stroke. Stixrud also ook a first, leading the divers. With these and several other firsts, seconds, and thirds, New Trier piled up a score that meant a victory. FORM TRACK LEAGUE Plans are being made to form a Track league among grammar s¢hools along the north shore.
