WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, MAY 23, 1925 TORNADO' FILM COMES TUESDAY Who Gets Slapped" Booked for Friday "He Crashing, hurtling logs tossed ahead of a resistless torrent make a spectacular background for some of the action in "The Tornado" which was adapted from Lincoln J. Carter's famous melodrama of the same name. It tells the story of a man who seeks to lose his identity and heal the wounds of his heart by terrific toil in the North Woods. His great strength and forceful temper cause him to be known as "Tornado". House Peters takes the leading role. On the same program, Andy Gump will appear in his latest two-reel comedy. Friday, May 29, the film which is hearalded as "the greatest International success of modern times" will be offered at Community House. "He Who Gets Slapped," starring Lon Chaney, John Gilbert, and Norma Shearer, has re- ceived lavish praise from practically every motion picture critic. This un- usual picture, adapted from the play by the noted Russian author, Leonid An- dreyev, is set in the locale of a Conti- nental hippodrome, with a clown as the central character. ~ "He Who Gets Slapped" is the story of a brilliant scinetist whose life work is stolen by his patron and friend. "HE," embittered, and seeking forgetfulness, be- comes a clown in a French circus. Richards Views Bible as "Textbook of Life" At the meeting of the Winnetka Sunday Evening club last Sunday Rev. James Austin Richards discussed the topic, "Science and the Bible." He emphasized the opinion that the sense of conflict in many people's minds be- tween science and the Bible rests on four false assumptions: first, that be- lief in the principles of science de- stroys the idea that the Bible is in- spired: second, that the religious authority of the Bible is imperiled; third, that the truth of the Bible is destroyed; fourth, that belief in evo- lution takes away the dignity and worth of man. Mr. Richards expressed the idea that the Bible is a repository of the body of religious experience; that it is the textbook for the labora- tory of life. ~--Mr. Richards will again be with the club Sunday evening, May 24. He will present the topic "How may we think of God?" The meeting will be held in the Camp Fire room at the Community House. Supper will be served at 6:30 COMMUNITY HOUSE MAY 29 FRIDAY The Yea i Picture Sensation / Lon Chaney, Norma Shearer, wih Sohn Gilbert, Tully Marshall VICTOR SEASTROMS production ELM STREET TO HAVE NEW ELECTRIC DEPOT Numerous improvements to their station facilities are contemplated by the Chicago, North Shore and Mil- waukee electric railway, according to a report made to the Village council by the public utilities committee Tuesday evening. The committee reported favor- ably on the matter and work is expect- ed to start in the near future. The present passenger station at Elm street is to be replaced by a moddern one-story structure, the arch- itecture of which will harmonize with that of the Boal building, across the street. The new station will be able to take carc oi passengers more efficient- ly and will be larger than the present structure. The permit for its erection will be issued with the understanding that the North Shore line agrees to re- move the station when grade separ- ation is accomplished. The company's plans also involve the removal of the merchandise dispatch station to the present sub-station on Lincoln avenue, just north of the passenger station. It is also planned to construct longer loading platforms at Elm street so that trains will not block the crossing when they stop to dis- charge or load passengers. Frederick R.
