EVANSTON Copeland-MacClintock Wedding September 5 RECENT ANNOUNCEMENT brings word that the marriage of Miss Elizabeth Copeland to Paul MacClintock, son of Pro- fessor and Mrs. William D. MacClintock of Chicago, will take place Saturday, September 5, at Christ church. Miss Copeland is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowell Copeland, who left Winnetka during the year that is past to reside in Michigan City, and who are now spending the summer at Lakeside, Mich. Arrange Ravinia Children's Carnival ¥ preparation for the Children's carnival, one of the season's big- gest undertakings of the Ravinia club, the members of the vari- cus Ravinia committees of the north shore met with Miss Bertha Iles, well-known Chicago dramatic teacher and leader, Thursday of this week, to discuss plans for the carnival, which will take place this year, Thursday, August 6. The Ravinia club meets throughout the season every Thursday at the Park, but this week's meeting was a special one to prepare for a special event. Mrs. Arthur R. Dean, 441 Willow road, is chairman of the Winnetka committee in the absence of Mrs. John Vennema from the city. Subscription books may be had by calling Mrs. Dean. Mrs. Charles Kreger and Mrs. Paul Kreger were hostesses Wednesday eve- ning at a shower in honor of Miss Isa- bel Kreger of Hammond, Ind. at the home of the former, 717 Willow road. Miss Kreger will be married to Paul Nichols of Hammond on August 28. She has lived in Glencoe for the last two years with her grandmother, Mrs. James Kent, and returned to Ham- mond this spring. The shower decorations were in pink and white. The gifts were brought in a clothes basket with old clothes on top by Mrs. Andrew Kreger of Glen- coe, who was dressed as a negro mammy. Luncheon was served at mid- night to the 26 guests. The families of the bride and bride- groom will be the only guests at the wedding which will take place in Ham- mond. Miss Katherine Kreger of Glencoe will be the maid of honor. --_--0-- The Chicago and North Shore mem- bers and alumni of Psi chapter of Phi Epsilon Pi fraternity at the University of Illinois held a smoker last Monday night at the Covenant club. Building plans were discussed, and a number of high school graduates were entertained. Next Sunday, the Illinois chapter and members of other chapters who are now in Chicago will take part in the annual celebration of Phi Epsilon Pi day, when a picnic will be held at St. Charles, and later in the day there will be a dinner at the Purple Grackle, near Elgin. --_--Q-- The North Shore Garden club will meet Tuesday afternoon, August 4, at the home of Mrs. Samuel Marx in Glencoe. Prof. Henry Dorner, dean of floriculture at the University of Illi- nois, will give a talk on lily culture, the first of a series of four lectures he is to give during the summer. Mrs. Bertram Cahn, president of the club, says that the organization is making arrangements to hold its annual flower show the latter part of August. This is known always to be a very attractive midsummer display. There have been many guests at the home of Giovanni Martinelli, who is occupying the Victor Elting residence at 830 Mt. Pleasant court, during the past few weeks. Last week Miss Rosa Raisa was one of those entertained, and Gennaro Papi was also present. This week Miss Lucrezia Bori and Frank Coppicus are the guests. Mr. Martinelli reports that he is enjoying the village of Winnetka and their stay here immensely. --_---- The marriage of Miss Gertrude FE. Long and Samuel S. Otis, son of Mr. and Mrs. William A. Otis, 644 Oak street, took place in Chicago on Mon- day, July 27. The ceremony was per- formed in the chapel of Saint James' church with the Rev. E. Ashley Ger- hard officiating. Only the intimate friends of the bride and bridegroom were present. Immediately after the ceremony the couple left for a trip to the Ozark mountains. --Q-- Eastern Star chapter No. 942, at Winnetka, held a meeting Tuesday to sew for the bazaar which is to be held in September. There were 18 women present at the affair, which was held at the home of Mrs. William F. Kent- nor at 310 Woodland avenue. The features of the day were a luncheon and a handkerchief shower, which was given for Mrs. J. E. Replogle, Worthy Matron, in honor of her birthday. --Q-- Miss Margot Atkin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Atkin of 5 In- dian Hill road, has as her guest until early autumn her cousin, Miss Evelyn Mary Atkin of Addlestone Surrey, England. The Atkins have taken their guest to Snow Lake to visit at the summer home of friends, who are giv- ing a house party in Miss Atkin's honor. or Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Faxon, 228 Poplar street, left last Monday to take a boat trip of a week to Mackinac island. Mrs. Lawrence Martin, 1102 Grant street, Evanston, former principal of the Greeley school of Winnetka, left Thursday morning for Atkinson, Ill, to spend a month with her parents. She has just returned from the state nor- mal school of Wisconsin at Stevens Point, Wis., where she lectured on the individual system. She will teach in Detroit next year. --O-- An informal reception was held at the home of W. M. Hoyt, 550 Sheridan road, last Sunday, when neighbors and old friends, "well wishers", dropped in and congratulated Mr. Hoyt on his 88th birthday. Visions of what Chicago was when he arrived came to Mr. Hoyt, and he talked much of the old days to his many friends who called. --O0 The Woman's City club of Chicago, whose president is Mrs. B. F. Lang- worthy of our village, and whose civic director for a year and a half was our Mrs. Lieber, is moving September 1 into beautiful spacious quarters in the London Guarantee building, at Mich- igan boulevard and the river, having leased an entire floor for their activi- ties. Oe The many members of the Hamilton club who live in Winnetka were ex- pecting to avail themselves of the club's annual picnic and field day which was held at the Great Lakes Naval Training station Thursday through the courtesy of Captain Waldo Evans, the com- mandant. Track events, baseball, vol- leyball, and dancing were to be features of the day's program of entertainment. --0-- Dr. and Mrs. Frank: W. Blatch- ford and their daughter have returned to the Village from their summer home in Canada, and will live in the Cor- nelius Lynde home at 864 Bryant ave- nue during the month of August while Mr. and Mrs. Lynde and their family are vacationing at the Blatchfords' Canadian home for the month. --Pr Eugene Feuchtinger of Oak street, who has given vocal lessons to pupils from all parts of the United States and also from many Kuropean coun- tries, has a novel pupil this summer in Miss Florence Mendelson of Tokio, Japan, who sang to that city until the time of the earthquake, when she came to this country. --_--O-- Mrs. Ferdinand Wolter, Jr., 1377 Scott avenue, and Mrs. Richard Web- ster, 466 Provident avenue, joint host- esses for the card party given for the Eastern Star chapter bazaar committee, were delighted at the very large re- sponse yesterday when over 125 women were present at one of the prettiest affairs given by the committee. --_---- Mr. and Mrs. Nelson of 516 Orchard lane are leaving today for a fortnight's vacation trip. Mrs. Nelson will spend the time at Harbor Springs, Mich. stopping off at Detroit to be the guest of her son, Sydney, for a few days. Mr. Nelson will go to Mr. Kinney's camp at Fish Creek in northern Wis- consin. --_--O-- Miss Mabelle Glover, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Glover of 95 Linden avenue, Hubbard woods, left with a party of friends on a motor trip to the interesting points of Canada. The group plans to stop at Hamilton, On- tario, and Niagara Falls on their re- turn trip. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Winterbotham and family, 899 Oak street, are leav- ing today for a five weeks' trip to points of interest in Colorado. They will later go on to California, where they will be the guests of relatives in different parts of the state. --_---- The Chicago Kindergarten college, which is located on South Michigan boulevard, and in which Mrs. Maurice H. Lieber of Ridge avenue has been conducting a course in citizenship dur- ing the summer session, held its grad- uation exercises for the term yester- day.
