-- _ WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 5, 1925 PURPLE TRAVELS * MUCH THIS FALL Northwestern Gridmen Face Tough Schedule Northwestern university's football team will journey twice to Stagg field on the Midway this fall, once to meet Coach Stagg's eleven in the annual game between the two schools, and again to meet the visiting Tulane uni- versity eleven from New Orleans, La. The change in the Purple schedule which will necessitate playing the Tulane game on the Midway, came about when it was found that Grant Park stadium would not be available on October 24, the date set for the contest. Through the courtesy of the ath- letic department of the University of Chicago, the use of Stagg field was ex- tended to Northwestern university for the contest with the southern eleven. The early demand for tickets for the intersectional tilt with Tulane soon re- vealed that Northwestern field in Ev- anston would not handle the large crowd which would want to witness the game. Many Tulane alumni in this section have already signified their de- sire for tickets as soon as they are placed on sale. Open with South Dakota The University of South Dakota will open the Purple grid season on Octo- ber 3, in Evanston. The boys from the northwest provided the opener for Coach Thistlethwaite's eleven last fall and gave the Purple such an interesting struggle that it was decided to in- vite them back again this season. EE an ---- only opportunity which Thistlethwaite will have to get a line on his men be- fore the opening of the conference season, as on October 17 the Purple is slated to hop over to the Midway for its annual struggle with Chicago uni- versity. : Since the Chicago contest is always the highlight of the Purple football season, Thistlethwaite will find it nec- essary to push his men at a rapid pace to have them in shape this early in the season. On the next Saturday, October 24 another trip will be made to Stagg field, this time to take on Tulane uni- versity, in the only intersectional game on the Purple schedule this season. Tulane comes north with an enviable record attained in southern {football circles and is expected to give the Northwestern gridders a tough as- signment. Indiana will be met October 31 at Evanston. This will be Homecoming Day for the Purple and a large crowd will be on hand to see the team in its one home conference game of the season. The University of Michigan will come to Chicago on November 7 to meet the Purple at Grant Park stadium. The game with the Wolverines will be one of the outstanding contests on the Purple schedule this year and is expected to fill the great stadium on Chicago's lake front. The Purdue game at Lafayette on November 14, will close the conference season for Northwestern. However, still another important game remains on the schedule, and one which Coach Thistlethwaite"s boys are looking for- ward to with considerable expectation. That is the game with Notre Dame to be played at South Bend November 21. Last season the Purple gave Coach Rockne's famous eleven its hardest game of the season, holding the four horsemen to a 13 to 6 score.
