WINNETKA WEEKLY TALK, SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 1925 KENILWORTH TO GET NEW LIGHTS Public Hearing on Village- wide Improvement Sched- uled for September 14 VOTE FAVORS PROJECT President Murray Issues Summons to Meeting Kenilworth residents will flock to the Assembly hall Monday evening, September 14, at 8 o'clock, for the pub- lic hearing to be held on the proposed new lighting system for that commu- nity, the resolution for sanction of which has been passed by the board of local improvements, and plans for which have been prepared by the firm of Randolph, Perkins and company, electrical engineers. Sentiment in the village has been in favor of this improvement for some time, it is said, and a postal card refer- endum taken last spring indicated an overwhelming majority in favor of the proposition. The new lighting system is similar to that recently installed in Wilmette and will cost approximately $118,800. The following letter to residents of the village is being sent out by James C. Murray, president of the Village board : Long Sought Improvement "For a number of years your village has been requested by numerous resi- dents of Kenilworth to install a more efficient street lighting system. "In response to, this demand a postal card referendum was submitted to the tax-payers several months ago and of 160 replies received 140 were in favor of such a system. "Therefore, the board engaged Randolph, Perkins and company, engineers, to work out, in conjunction with a committee of the board, a mod- ern system of street lighting, and sub- mit plans and estimates of cost to be paid for by special assessment spread in equal amounts over a period of five years, the first installment to be pay- able next spring. "The usual public hearing as required by law takes place on Monday, Sep- tember 14, at 8 o'clock P. M. at the Assembly hall and you will receive the regular legal notice thereof. It is de- sired by the board that the citizens should be familiar with the details of the proposed improvement and, inas- much as everyone is interested in the question of street lighting, full attend- ance is urged. Don't Want "City" Effect "The board has materially reduced the amount of illumination that en- gineers and lighting statistics indicate as being correct on all streets, with the exception of Sheridan road, due to the fact that they do not desire regular city lighting for our village, but want adequate dependable illumination of just sufficient volume. "It is estimated roughly that the cost will be about $1.65 per front foot with a moderately higher cost on corner lots. Corner lots will be assessed ac- cording to frontage only. Plan for 368 Lights "Plans and drawings may be ex- amined at the village offices and any member of the board will be glad to supply further information. The whole matter will be explained as far as possible at the public hearing and I 24 LOST AND FOUND LOST -- ON SUNDAY, A WIRE- haired fox terrier; white with black spots. Reward.
