26 MacDowell Society of North Shore Will Meet on October 27 "The North Shore MacDowell society will meet at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Albert J. Metzel, Sycamore place, Highland Park, Tuesday, October 27, at 8 o'clock in the evening. Albin Polasek, director of sculpture at the Art Institute of Chicago, will speak. The society expects great things for itself this coming year. This organ- ization contributes to the maintenance of the MacDowell Colony at Peters- borough, N. H., which affords op- portunities for the development of a national art. This colony is not con- fined to one art alone, and painters, sculptors, poets, playwrights, novelists, and composers have worked together in_this spot, which it is stated, is free from Sentimentality and based upon sound business principles. The evening meetings of the North Shore MacDowell society offer pro- grams given by exceptional artists and people of note in the artistic world. WILL BE DINNER HOSTESS Mrs. Ida R. Birr of 504 Maple ave- nue, Wilmette, will be hostess at a Chop Suey dinner for the north shore members of the Daughters of the Nile Hallowe'en night. Cards and bunco will be played by the guests following the dinner which will be served at 6:30 o'clock.
