4 WINNETKA TALK October 24, 1925 WOULD MAKE OLD HALL OVER INTO FIRE Shia Architect Tells Plan to Village Council; Visualizes Struc- ture of Great Beauty Plans for a new fire station for the Village were told council members Tuesday evening by the public build- ings and grounds committee. Some time ago S. S. Beeman, an architect, was authorized by the council to make a study of the present Village hall with the idea of its conversion into a fire station when the new building is completed. Preliminary plans and drawings for the new building were shown to the council members and made a favorable impression. In the plans the new building would be two stories in height, with the exit drive for the fire appratus extending from the east side and entering the new street which is to run along the west side of the railroad tracks. Provides for Future Growth The new building would be very beautiful and no one would recognize it as the old Village hall, it is explained. It would have much more space than is now necessary and would provide for the future growth of the Village for years to come. The building would provide adequate space for sleeping and recreation quarters for the fire- men and would be a great improve- ment over their present quarters. In considering the matter, council members were asked to take into con- sideration the fact that a new fire station, erected on some other site yet to be acquired, would entail a total expenditure as great as the cost of the conversion of the present Village hall, athough the resulting building would be neither as large nor as beautiful. The matter is under consideration by the council. Mrs. Hermon B. Butler, whose home is at 715 Prospect avenue, has gone into the city to spend the winter in Mrs. Washburn's apartment on Astor street which she has rented.
