iso Jaa December 12, 1925 WINNETKA TALK 7 SERVE "PILAF" MEAL Cardinal Tea House to Take Lead in Observing "Golden Rule Sunday" by Eating Simple Near East Fare Black bread and corn syrup, "pilaf," cocoa and apricot sauce to top off with, will be served for dinner tomorrow at the Cardinal Tea House on Spruce street. Tomorrow is being observed as "Golden Rule Sunday" by the Con- gregational church. Contributions for the Near East Relief will be asked to support the educational and relief work of the American governmental inter- national agency. All families are requested to serve the menu described above at their dinner tables, and to give the asso- ciation the amount saved. The deaconesses of the church have hit upon the novel plan of opening the Cardinal Tea House, usually closed on Sunday, and serving the American Orphanage meal for the price of one dollar per person, all profits to go to the Near East Relief. Further- more, the deaconesses will cook and serve the meal themselves. "Pilaf" is rice cooked with tomato and meat broth. It's said to be nour- ishing, and black rye bread is hygienic. They will be served on bare tables, with meager accessories, and cocoa in tin cups, to remind the diners of the stern simplicity of the fare and sur- roundings of these Near East refugee children, the remnant of a numerous people, dispossessed of land, property, and often life itself. So you won't need to prepare the Near East Orphanage meal at home unless you want to. Just phone the Cardinal Tea House on Saturday that you'll be there Sunday between 1 and 2 o'clock with your family. and vour "Pilaf" and black bread will be wait- ing for you.
