A a ----_---- 24 WINNETKA TALK Elshuco Concert Notable Date on Chamber Program BY MUSIC CRITIC December 6, 1925, will for many years be a notable date in the calendar of the North Shore Chamber Music association. On this date the Elshuco Trio, the foremost instrumental trio in America and probably in the world, presented a recital under the auspices of the above-mentioned association. The recital was a brilliant example of how perfectly three artists can inter- pret musical compositions. William Willeke, 'cellist, William Kroll, vio- linist, and Aurelio Giorni, pianist, mak- ing up this famous trio, played five numbers so superbly as to evoke the unqualified approval of a very large and appreciative audience. Although the opening number, one of Schubert's masterpieces, was to the present writer the most enjoyable of the afternoon's offerings, still in re- trospect there was a uniform excel- lence in technical skill, beauty of phrasing, discriminating expression, and melodic sense from the beginning of the program to the very end. The en- core to the second number, a portion of a Litanie (I hope this is spelled correctly) by a modern Russian com- poser, Paul Juon, was in striking con- trast to the numbers in the program proper. It was, however, a rather pleasing novelty. The assembly hall in Kenilworth, where this concert took place, was completely filled and tickets for the next recital were in demand. It is requested that those who cannot at- tend send their tickets to Mrs. Cotton, New Trier High school, that she may pass them on to those students who desire to avail themselves of this un- usual opportunity of gaining instruc- tion in the rare art of ensemble play- ing. Mr. and Mrs. Gordon L. Pirie, 945 Sheridan road, are receiving the con- gratulations of their friends upon the birth of twins at the Evanston hos- pital, Saturday, November 28, The babies are girls, and will be named Nancy and Martha. wl.
