WINNETKA TALK December 19, 1925 Winnetka Woman's Club "My College" and her special con- ~ tribution to the education of women 'was interpreted by graduates of six colleges and universities at the Win- netka Woman's club Tuesday. The afternoon was in charge of Mrs. Wal- ter T. Fisher, chairman of the educa- tion committee. Mrs. H. A. de Windt, a graduate of Radcliffe, spoke of the parallel educa- tion of the women at Radcliffe to that of the men at Harvard. The English course offered by Wel- lesley was most enthusiastically fea- tured by Mary Montgomery. The com- prehensive work done by this depart- ment was greatly inspired by Kath- erine Lee Bates who was associated with the department. The University df Wisconsin has made great strides toward answering the question of many girls--"After College, What?" Its college of physical education was the first in the Middle West and since its beginning, only comparatively recently, 154 women have been graduated and are scattered over the world carrying on this work. The home economics department of the College of Agriculture has educated womex to be expert dietitians, bac- terloRgists, to carry on extension work in the rural communities and do in- valuable research work. Miss Olivia Fentress, presented the resume of these two piece of work at the University of Wisconsin. Vassar has started a new department of euthenics. Miss Mary Card told of this interesting piece of constructive education which undoubtedly will claim more of our attention as it unfolds. Euthenics is a science and art of race betterment. It is a study of the in- dividual and his environment, and the relation of the one to the other; of the human mechanism and the condi- tions necessary for the best function Mrs. William B. Hale told of one of the most far-reaching contributions of any school, the Bryn Mawr Summer School for Women Workers in In- dustry. Each summer 100 girls in in- dustry are chosen to attend this school Last season there were girls from 19 states representing many trades and processes. These girls went to school for two months, away from the whir of the wheels of machinery and the noise of the factory to companionship with ivy covered walks, quietude, edu- cated minds and the study of eco- nomics, political and social sciences, and English, with much play mixed in. It is Lkoped that these girls will do much toward brightening the horizon of the girls to whom they return. We all know of the many contribu- tions the University of Chicago makes each year to education and science, but Mrs. Harry Gottlieb pointed out the big service the university performs in the industrial and social life of Chi- cago. The hostesses of the afternoon were Mrs. Godfrey Atkin, Mrs. Dwight Greene, Mrs. John Metcalf, Mrs. James Prindiville, Mrs. Towner Web- ster, and Mrs. Harold Wilder. A courts committee of 21 women, with Miss Elizabeth Gemmell as chair- man, has been created as a sub-com- mittee of the civics and philanthropy committee to co-operate with Miss Jessie Binford in connection with the Morals Court and the Juvenile Court. The Children's party will be given December 29. The children of club members only will be admitted and members are asked not to bring chil- dren under 5 years. Radio Batteries teries.
