Biggest Gym Class to Celebrate Anniversary On January 14, station KYW will complete two years of daily broadcast- ing of morning exercises by the phys- ical work staff of Central department Y. M. C. A. Chicago and will celebrate with a gala week. Many north shore people are members of this morning calisthenic class. KYW was the first station in the world to put on these health exercises broadcasts as a daily feature. Over 50,000 different people have written in for a copy of the exercise charts, ac- cording to P. A. Leonhardt, director of physical education at Central "Y", who originated the plan. This is said to be the largest gymnasium class in the world and yet there is room for as many more as wish to join it and per- fect privacy is assured for all Physical directors of the Young Men's Christian association, with the ccoperation of local radio stations, have established similar radio morning exer- cises based on the Chicago example, in Detroit, Mich., Newark, N. EVANSTON -- Phone Greenleaf 6194 -- Begin Work on Stadium for Purple This Spring Northwestern university is planning to break the first ground for its pro- posed new athletic stadium as early in the spring as the weather will per- mit. Work will then proceed rapidly and it is confidently believed that the initial structure of two decks with 49,000 permanent seats will be com- pleted by the opening of the football season in the fall. The Purple stadium is planned as a three-decker and is so shown in the photographs, but due to the rigid zon- ing ordinance existent in the City of Evanston only two decks, 80 feet in height, will be constructed at this time. The third deck will be added, with the consent of the Evanston city fathers, when the need is acute. The three- decker, however, is the stadium as planned by James Gamble Rogers, New York architect, and Gavin Had- den, stadium engineer. When entirely finished the structure will be 126 feet high, with a total seating capacity, in- cluding end seats, of about 75,000. Next fall, when the big game brings an un- usual demand for tickets, the two- decker stadium probably will be taxed to capacity, in which event temporary end seats to accommodate at least 6,000 will be erected. K. of C. Members to Enjoy "Dinty" Feast Ouilmette Council, Knights of Colum- bus, will attend a "Dinty Moore" din- ner at the St. James church at High- wood Tuesday evening, January 26. The group will be the guests of the Rev. Francis Magner, formerly chap- lain of the council, and following the banquet a regular business meeting of the council will be held, the first regu- lar meeting ever held outside the local hall, it is said. Corned beef and cab- bage will form the main portion of the dinner and all members of the council are expected to be on hand to partake of this feast. J. F.
