January 16, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 17 Alvin Culver, Grid Star, Plans to Play With Purple Squad Alvin S. Culver, 103 Broadway, Wil- mette, a veteran football player at the St. Thomas Military academy of St. Paul, Minn., and captain of the eleven last autumn, will enter Northwestern university next September, according to word received by the University this week. Culver recently finished his most successful grid season in his three years of competition at St. Thomas, leading his outfit to the parochial school championship of the North west in 1925. He plays a tackle position, He was placed at one of the tackle posts on the All-Academy team for St. Paul and Minneapolis this past season. This husky gridman, who stands six feet two inches in his stocking feet and tips the beam at 205 pounds, is a versatile athlete and is unusually speedy for a man of his size. He cap- tained the water polo team, and re- ceived letters in this sport as well as on the track. Culver expects to graduate from St. Thomas next June. He will be only 18 years old when he enters North- western. He is a good student as well as an athlete. The proceeds will accrue to the benefit of the Chicago Play Producing company. The author of the piece, George Kaiser, is a constructionist. The play is modern. The scenery is patterned after the Meyerhold theatre of Moscow.
