OUR OWN WEATHER PREDICTION (We hit it every time--some times.) Winnetka Coal - Lumber Co. 823 Spruce Street Winnetka 734 Rathbone Chosen to | Direct House Fight | at "Lame Ducks" By special request, Henry R. Rath- | bone, congressman-at-large for Illi- nois, and a resident of Kenilworth, ap- peared before the committee on elec- tion of president, vice-president, and representatives in congress in favor of the proposed constitutional amend- ment, changing the time for the con- vening of congress and the inaugura- tion of president. Congressman Rathbone was selected to present the case in favor of the amendment, not only because he had introduced such a resolution in the last congress and is known to be much interested in the subject, but also be- cause he is a recognized authority on the constitution of the United States and has been a lecturer on the sub- ject in some of the law schools of Chi- cago and Washington, D. C. The amendment provides for the convening of congress in January fol- lowing the election in November, and not, as is now the case, in the follow- ing December, thirteen months after such election. Among other things, Congressman Rathbone said, "Nothing could be more absurb than to allow a congress that had been repudiated at the polls to continue to legislate for many months thereafter. That is not the way we do in the business world. 'A lame duck' congress goes back to the days of the stagecoach when it took months to travel from one end of the country to another. The progress of modern science and invention has well-nigh annihilated time and distance, and we ought to keep the constitution abreast of the times. Our government should be responsive to the people's will." Chicago Auto Show to Open This Saturday The eyes of the automobile are now turned toward Cnicago. On Saturday afternoon, January 30, the doors of the Coliseum will swing open for the twenty-sixth annual Na- tional Automobile Show given under the auspices of the National Automo- bile Chamber of Commerce and the people of Chicago and other sections of the country will get their first view of the latest advancements and achieve- ments in the fine art of passenger car and accessories manufacture. The show will continue until February 6. The 1926 national show in Chicago will rank as the largest and one of the most important of all national shows. It will typify the march of the auto- motive industry toward the goal of ul- timate perfection in passenger cars, taxicabs and accessories; it will be a fitting climax to the year 1925--the greatest in the history of the automo- bile industry--and, at the same time, it will be the curtainraiser for what promises to be an even greater and more successful year for the industry. Host of New Models Never before in the life of the au- tomobile industry have so many new models of cars been presented at a na- tional show; never before has there been so much of general interest to the great army of automobile owners, users and enthusiasts. The Chicago show will be an exemplification of the fact that the industry has attained the highest degree of perfection in motor car manufacturing ever known. A few years ago the construction features of American automobiles had reached what appeared to be an absolute in the matter of design. world Telephone All Orders Lafayette 8220 care Actual photograph of our 2,000,000 gallon central station at Clear- ing which supplies our different distributing stations, including our 150,000 gallon plant at Winnetka.
