"Over 600 persons attended the fif- teenth annual luncheon of the Infant Welfare society of Chicago January 27, Lucius Teeter presided. The speak- er of the day was Esther Loring Rich- ards, M. Miss Sara Place, superintendent of the Infant Welfare society of Chi- cago, and president of the Illinois State Nurses association, read a very fine report. She said there was 11 percent more work done with less than 3 percent in expenses during 1925. She reported that 12,847 babies under 2 years of age were cared for during the past year and the life rate was 98.7 percent for the year. This is only part of the work, as the pre- natal and pre-school work were also very fine. The reports of the Woman's auxiliary were received with the grea*- rst enthusiasm, at the morning meet- ing preceding the luncheon. Miss Gladys Spry retired from the presidency of the auxiliary after five years of splendid leadership. Mrs. Swanson was elected president for 1926. A large number of Winnetka alumni of Loyola university will attend the dinner to be held in the Red Lacquer room of the Palmer House Wednes- day, February 10, to celebrate the fact that the enrollment has gone beyond the 5,000 mark. The principal address will be given by Mayor Dever. No. 3 We can sympathize with Feb- ruary, it's a little short. Mrs. Harry Roberts, 722 Elm street, says that this is the best ad in the paper. Many thanks Mrs. Roberts, we admire your taste. This js our own little newspaper. Have you noticed that the days are getting longer? Have you figured out your income tax? We have recently received a let- ter from Fred R. Haviland of Havi- land Realty Co., in which he thanks us for the year's subscription to the "American Builder." And, quoting his exact words, he says: "There is another matter I feel duty bound to speak of and that is, after five years of experience with your sales and delivery department, I am pleased to say that I have never known any other business organi- zation to have reached a higher degree and standard for constant service as to the speed and ac- curacy. Winnetka Coal - Lumber On. 823 Spruce Street Winnetka 734 "Please feel that this expression has not been prompted by the most acceptable christmas gift (Ameri- can Builder) for it is simply a ques- tion of giving credit where it right- fully belongs." Many thanks Mr. Haviland for your appreciation of our efforts. We are expecting reports about the §rst robin within the next few days. Call us up when you see one. We've believed a lot of these radio stories. But Lee Adams tells us that he got a male quartet the other night, and with his radio set he was able to tune out all but the tenor! Can you beat that one? There's only one way to keep from getting old, and that is to die first. OUR OWN WEATHER SNOW AND COLDER.
