WINNETKA TALK August 14, 1926 Pres. Scott Adds 6 Holders of Ph.D. to Faculty of N. U. Six holders of Ph. D. degrees are included in the most recent announce- ment by President Walter Dill Scott of the new faculty appointments to the College of Liberal Arts of Northwest- ern university. Two of these and their appoint- ments--Prof. James Arthur Todd and Prof. Franklin D. Barker have already been announced. The others are Prof. Albert Russell Ellingwood, Prof. C. S. Braden, Prof. Virgil B. Heltzel, and Prof. William Herbert Sheldon. Prof. Ellingwood, who has served at Colorado college, Oxford, and Univer- sity of Pennsylvania, is to be a mem- ber of the Political Science depart- ment. Prof. Braden, who recently won his Ph. D. from the University of Chicago, is to go on the staff of the School of Religious Education. Prof. Heltzel, who has been at Ran- dolph-Macon college and at the Uni- versity of Chicago where he won his Ph. D., will become a member of the faculty of the English department. C. R. Noller, recently connected with Washington university and the University of Illinois, which is to award him a doctor's degree, will be in the chemistry department. Armand E. DuGord, recently of the University of Paris and of Indiana university, is toe be a member of the romance language department. Prof. Sheldon will be assistant pro- fessor of psychology. Miss Sally Windes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. G. Windes, 244 Forest ave- nue, has returned home after spend- ing the first part of the summer at Camp Wetomachek, Wis. The contests brought to a close the summer swimming classes held by Coach Robinson. Each summer the veteran swimming coach teaches young and old the art of swimming as well as improving those who already know how. Heinsimer, both of Wilmette, were {among the first groups of candidates | for entrance to the University of | Pennsylvania to be admitted under the | new scholastic aptitude test, it was an- | nounced today by Dr. Karl G. Miller, | director of admissions of the univer- | sity. The scholastic aptitude test, accord- ing to Dr. Miller, is supplementary to | the scholastic record of the student {and aims at measuring the ability of the candidate in other terms than school subjects or mere academic marks. It was conducted for the first time this year and was administered by the college entrance examination board in approximately 300 cities for the benefit of over 9,000 students seek- ing admission to various institutions of higher learning.
