August 21, 1926 WINNETKA TALK Navy Men Ushers at Backus-Howe Nuptials The Kenilworth Union church, dec- orated with ferns and other greens and large bouquets of pink roses and del- phinium, was the scene of the marriage of Miss Margaret Backus, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathan Trumbull Backus of Kenilworth, to Hamilton Wilcox Howe, ensign U.S. N. son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles D. Howe, also of Kenilworth, on Tuesday evening. Dr. Herbert L. Willett performed the cere- mony and Francis F. Moore of Win- netka, was the organist. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Backus home, 245 Cumnor road. The bride and her attendants wore dresses of period style, the bridal gown being of white satin and duchesse lace trimmed with pearls. Betty Backus, sister of the bride who, with Jack Howe, the bridegroom's brother, ~ stretched the ribbons, was also in pink. Little Vir- ginia Hower, flower girl, wore white over a pale green. The bride's cap was trimmed with clusters of orange blossoms, and her veil was of duchesse lace. She carried a shower bouquet of lilies-of-the-valley, white sweet peas and roses. The bridesmaids' bouquets were of pink roses and larkspur, and the maid of honor also carried pink flowers. The fact that the bridegroom and his attendants were all of the army and navy made the wedding a social event of prominence in military circles. The best man was Ensign William C.
