RED CROSS FUND LOW Disaster Relief Depletes Treasury, Bringing Need of Greater Response to Annual Membership Appeal Disaster relief work has almost de- pleted Red Cross treasuries and made more imperative than ever the demand for donations when the annual pre- holiday drive comes. This is the statement of the chair- man of the Evanston branch of the Chicago Red Cross chapter, Mrs. James A. Patten, previous to the for- mal announcement of the drive, to open, as usual, Armistice Day, and to continue through Thanksgiving. This announcement will be made, ac- cording to Mrs. Patten, when repre- sentatives of the Chicago chapter re- turn from the national meeting held in Washington, D. C. Additional to the call for funds, there is need of help with the sewing sent out from local headquarters to various societies whose aid the branch is greatly appreciating. There is need of much clothing for disaster relief, not alone in Florida but in the flooded districts of Illinois, and this need, with that of money, must make the impending drive more effectual than usual, officials state. "The greatest satisfaction in the hurricane and disaster trouble," states Mrs. Patten, "is that people do recog- nize the Red Cross as the correct agency for relief. These disasters have proved it as never before." TO GIVE BAZAAR The Girls' club of New Trier High school is planning a bazaar to be given Saturday, December 4, it was an- nounced this week.
