Football garbed ushers and organist, permeating strains of "Collegiate," a per- former known to all Northwestern and "The Campus Flirt" on the screen, made the program one of the most popular of the season. The audience's partici- pation in singing and yelling com- pleted each eve- ning's jamboree. Even the orches- Rollin Pease tra leader added to Photo by Toloff the prevailing foot- ball atmosphere in the role of white- sweatered referee. He and the organ- ist with Moon's "22" on his back lead the Northwestern followers in singing "Go U Northwestern," the Push On song, and versions of popular songs exploiting Northwestern's team and promising the defeat of any and every opponent. Rollin Pease, baritone and former director of Northwestern Glee club, sang three songs he has rendered be- fore college audiences: "Captain of My Soul," "Bells of St. Mary's" and "On the Road to Mandalay." During the whole performance purple-jerseyed ushers did their usual cavorting up and down the aisles, wearing the familiar "3," "27, "23" and "8" on their backs. Mr. and Mrs. Frederick W. Gookin, Miss Natalie Gookin, of 321 Linden street, and Mrs. Horace Kennedy have I returned from Estes Park, Colo., where they had been since June. ADOPT NEW PLAN FOR HANDLING OF FREIGHT North Shore Line to Inaugurate Flatcar and Trailer Service That Is Unique An innovation in the handling of less than carload lots of freight will fea- ture this phase of service on the Chi- cago, North Shore and Milwaukee railroad, the North Shore line, in the near future, when flatcar and trailer equipment specially designed for the "Road of Service" is placed in opera- tion between Chicago and Milwaukee. This is the first equipment of its kind ever to be placed in service on any railroad in the United States. It dif- fers from equipment somewhat similar in nature in that the trailers are mounted on the flatcars without the wheels being removed. Special runways are provided where- by two trailers are mounted on each flatcar. Interlocking devices hold the trailers securely in place during tran- sit. The great savings in time and ex- pense of handling shipments make this new equipment an outstanding con- tribution to the development of freight transportation. The trailers eliminate all extra handling of shipments, being loaded at the point of departure and unloaded at their destination. The trailers will be hauled by mo- tor truck to a central loading station, where they will be mounted on flatcars. Deliveries of the trailers will be made in similar manner to all parts of the cities embraced in this new type of service.
