Boutell Republican Candidate for Christian Science Churches "Probation After Death" was the subject of the Lesson-Sernom in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, Sunday, October 24. The Golden Text was from John 5:25, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live." Among the citations which com- prised the Lesson-Sermon was the fol- lowing from the Bible: "If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept. For he must reign, till he hath put all enemies under his feet. The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death" (I. Cor. 15:19, 20, 25, 26). The Lesson-Sermon also included the following passages from the Chris- tian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "The Bible calls death an enemy, and Jesus overcame death and the grave instead of yield- ing to them. He was 'the way.' To him, therefore, death was not the threshold over which he must pass in- to living glory" (p. 39).
