Y. W. C. A. officials who are sponsoring the plan. About 300 dolls will be dressed by N. U. girls during the next three or four weeks and thousands of red Christmas stockings made. The ma- terial for the stockings, and the un- dressed dolls, have been received and competition not only among individual girls will be keen but there is to be friendly rivalry among the twenty-six sororities as to which will set the styles this year in attractive doll- dressing. A doll show is to be put on about a week before Christmas, prob- ably in Harris hall, when the results of the dressmaking will be judged by competent critics. "The girls have decided to concen- trate most of their energies in giving the little girls and boys living in the neighborhood of the Northwestern university settlement in Chicago a happy Christmas this year," explained Miss Doris Curran, secretary of the campus Y. W. C. A. "In other years they have tried both to pack Thanks- giving baskets and to do Christmas doll-dressing, but this year it seems most wise to center our endeavors upon Christmas preparations, as the time is not long and the girls are ex- tremely busy in class-work. After the stockings are made and the doll show is held, the girls will take the results of their labors to the Settlement House where the stockings will be filled with candy, fruit and nuts and the dolls ap- portioned off by Miss Harriet Vittum and her staff to the poor families of that section." Miss Curran made it plain that not only sorority girls. but the unorganized women students are participating in the doll-dressing contests and in the making of Yule stockings. She said that sorority lines are never drawn when it's a test of the girls' willing- ness to perform good deeds and that in this year's Christmas work all of the girls are "pitching in" with vim and enthusiasm.
