December 11, 1926 WINNETKA TALK CARLETON WASHBURNE TO LECTURE ABROAD Winnetka School Superintendent Invited to World Education Meeting at Locarno Carleton W. tendent of the Winnetka public schools, has just accepted an invita- tion to give a series of lectures at the world conference on "New Education," in Locarno, Switzerland, which will be held next summer from August 3 to August 15. His general lecture subject will be on progressive movements in American education, in addition to which he will conduct a course on Winnetka methods of education. The conference in Locarno is the Fourth International conference of the New Education Fellowship. Outstand- ing educators from all over the world will be present and will address the conference on various subjects con- nected with the educational movement. Washburne, superin- Among the lecturers who will be pres- | ent and speak are Dr. Alfred Adler, fa- mous psychololgist of Vienna; M. Pierre Bovet, director of the Jean Jacques Rosseau Institute of Geneva; Dr. Ovide Decroly, an internationally known authority on psychology and education; Mrs. Beatrice Ensor, editor of the New Era, known to Winnetka people through her lecture at the Skokie school last spring; Prof. Guisseppe Lombardo-Radice, Italian editor, author, and educator; and Dr. Elizabeth Rotten, editor of a leading German educational periodical. Winnetka Widely Known The work of the Winnetka Public | schools has become very widely known in European educational circles during the past two or three years, numerous articles on it having appeared in lead- | ing educational journals of England, Holland, Sweden, Czecho-Slovakia, Russia, France, Germany, Switzerland, and Italy. Certainly the work being carried on in the local schools is ex- tensive in scope decidedly original, and pronounced advancement over courses presented in the average public schools. | That the work of Mr. Washburne and the faculties of the various schools is being recognized as an important step in educational procedure by interna- tionally known educators is especially pleasing to their many friends in this and near by communities. Mr. Washburne will be accompanied on the European lecture trip by Mrs. Washburne, and Miss Marian Cars- well, principal of the Hubbard Woods school will also attend the conference at Locarno.
