r/; ra ans spp lS 5 3 foo A, oh RANG December 11, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 41 KRIS KRINGLE CALLS FOR GIFTS FOR POOR Santa Claus Toy Shop of North Shore Country Day School Opens to Receive Gifts The Santa Claus Toy Shop of the North Shore Country Day school, Win- netka, is now operating full force in preparation for the arrival of Santa Claus on December 16, to collect the stock of toys, books, etc., to be dis- tributed under his direction and through the various settlements in Chi- cago to the children of needy families. The North Shore Country Day school children received a radio mes- sage from Jolly Old Kris Kringle him- self, a few days ago, advising them that the demand for toys this year is great and informing them when he will arrive. This is the sixth year of the North Shore Country Day school Toy Shop. Each year interest and en- thusiasm in the work has increased, and today, every student in the school is spending all his free periods during the school day in the toy shop, which has been organized into various de- partments, each of which is in charge of a student head. "New" Toys From Old There is a shop for making brand new toys. Then there is a shop where old toys are being reconstructed into toys that are just as good as new ones. There is a paint shop where both the new and old toys are given the finish- ing bright touches. There is a toy marine department, swith dry dock "an' n'ver'thing," where old boats are given new keels, donkey | New boats are being built and launched down the ways into Santa Claus har- bor and there are machine shops for the overhauling and repairing of toy engines, cars and other mechanical toys. On December 16, when Santa Claus calls for the products of the North Shore Country Day schools 1926 Toy Shop, it will be well for him to come in a motor truck if he wishes to convey the output at one load. TO BROADCAST CAROLS Fifty minutes of Christmas carols will be put on the air via the "mike" of the Chicago Daily News radio station WMAQ by Northwestern's A Cappella choir beginning at 9 p. m. December 15, according to an announcement by Dean Peter C. Lutkin of the Music school. The carol program will follow Prof. Ferdinand Schevill's lecture on "The Historical Tendencies of Society" in the contemporary thought series being broadcast weekly.
