December 11, 1926 WINNETKA TALK 51 At the Movies VILLAGE THEATRE "Spangles," a dramatic portrayal of circus folk, circus life and circus scenes, actually taken under Al G. Barnes' "big top," is one of the most human stories ever brought to the screen. It was written by Nellie Revell, who has lain for four years in a hospital bed, but has never lost her optimism or the "common touch" anc certainly is a master production. To be shown at the Village theatre Mon- day and Tuesday, December 13 and 14, with "Hold Still," a Christie comedy, and a Pathe news reel. "Broken Hearts of Hollywood" is a story of motion pictures and deals with many dramatic situations which arise in the film world. It seeks to tell the story as it is--the struggles, the sacri- fices and hardships in as realistic a manner as possible. Additional fea- tures for Wednesday and Thursday are "Pound Foolish" and a Pathe Review. "Everybody's Acting," is a comedy- drama. It is a story of an orphan girl adopted by five foster fathers, four actors and a newspaper reporter. Ac- cidentally she falls in love with a taxi chauffeur, really a millionaire mother's (the father doesn't count) son. The hero's mother decides to investigate the heroine's antecedents and the girl's foster fathers call in an entire theatri- cal company to represent titled per- sons when she calls on them. It is really a delightful farce. To be shown on Friday and Saturday. THE NEW EVANSTON "Take It From Me," reputed Reg- inald Denny's funniest picture, is the current showing at the New Evanston theater. It is adapted from the New York musical comedy success of the same title, and is said to have all that show's dash and breeziness. Denny, as an extravagent young heir, sinks the last dollar of his inheritance on a horse which can't win first place in a race. The picture moves rapidly from one comedy situation to another. "Exit Smiling," a comedy-romance of life with a tank-town dramatic troupe, comes Monday to the New Evanston. It features Beatrice Lillie, London musical comedy star and sen- sation of "Charlot's Revue." Jack Pickford plays the masculine lead. THE HOYBURN Doris Kenyon in "Ladies at Play" is the show on the screen today at the Hoyburn theater. As Ann Harper, the star is left $6,000,000 on condition that she marry immediately, and marry a man who meets the approval of two spinster aunts cut off with a few dollars by the same will. Lloyd Hughes, Louise Fazenda and others make up the sup- porting cast. Neil Hamilton in "The Great Gats- | by," the film version of F. Scott Fitz- | gerald's novel, starring Warner Bax- ter, Lois Wilson and Georgia Hale, will come to the Hoyburn screen when [the bill changes Monday. THE NORSHORE The lovely Norma Shearer, who | came off so gloriously victorious in | the recent Tribune popularity contest, |carries the lead in the picture, "Up- [stage," on the screen this week at the [Norshore. | Thirty famous American vaudeville teams are said to have acclaimed Monte Bell's drama of vaudeville life, absolutely authentic in every detail That Oscar Shaw acted, looked and portrayed perfectly the role of the trouper and that Norma Shearer plays an excellent part of the ambitious stage beginner is reported their opin- ion.
