Appetite much im- proved. The outdoor life here makes us both feel younger. Mrs. Life and I played shuffleboard with new guests just arrived from Cin- cinnati. They are fine people. He is connected with big soap manu- facturer there. Arose early and had two rounds on the Holly Hill Links. Played in shirt sleeves and linen knickers. Weather like spring. Paid hotel bill today for week. Rate is sure reasonable. Wish I had come here last year. New managers of the Inn, Dr. and Mrs. Thompson, are splendid people. Arranged with Mr. P. of Cincinnati to go fishing tomorrow. HOLLY HILL INN, DAVENPORT, FORIDA Dec. 17. Dec. 18. Dec. 19. The Diary Left Inn early with Mr. P. for fishing trip to Lake St. Charles in the Groves. Fish biting good. Landed one eight pounder and five weighing 2 to 5 pounds each. Great sport. Mr. P. good companion. Wants to learn to play golf. Ate hearty dinner. Chef cooked fish for us. Mrs. Life delighted. Joined bridge party in evening. Big event today. Lake Davenport. Some of fastest outboard motor boats in Florida raced. Fast little boats. Wonder- ful and thrilling. Mrs. Life en- joyed it. Had big crowd. Many people from out-of-town. Daven- port Yacht Club gave races. Some- thing doing here all the time. Had big dance in evening. Music un- usually good. Had big day and feel fine. Mrs. Life enjoyed music. Reminds her of younger days. Attended church this morning with Mrs. Life and other guests. Splen- did sermon. Quite a number of week-end guests here. Roast duck for dinner. My favorite fowl. Spent much time during afternoon inspecting flowers and shrubbery here. Regular course in botany. Prominent horticulturist here ex- plained everything. Paper says north and west in grip of cold wave. Guess I'll stay here. Mrs. Life says hotel is like home. Boat racing on Dec. 20. Friends from Wilmette came in last evening by motor. They had fine trip. Roads good, especially in Florida. Drove out to their Holly Hill Grove this morning. Have wonderful grove. Showed them mine. Picked more fruit from trees. First time George and his wife have seen their grove. Bought it two years ago. Glad they did it. Made up foursome this morning with Mr. P., George and Mr. C. of Chicago. Links looking fine. George Christ, Holly Hill pro ac- companied us and gave Mr. P. in- struction; he is apt scholar. Get more real sport out of this course than any other. Like it more every day. Handy to Inn.
