Wright (Cook County Health Commissioner) We should not expect to be re- warded for being good, but it is very, very nice if we are--especially if one is between six and fourteen years old. We probably do not even desire a re ward for keeping ourselves healthy, yet when one is small, to do a lot of daily chores for the sake of what grownups call "hygiene," is a tiresome job indeed. Such being the psychology of the child, the National Tuberculosis asso- ciation discovered some years ago that if it bestowed honor and prizes upon those who scrubbed their ears, cleaned their teeth and drank plenty of water, the pursuit of good health became an exciting race. The proof that they were right, is evidenced by the fact that today the organization's child health movement, generally known as the Modern Health Crusade, has en- rolled in its membership some two mil- lion children. About 1500 of these are here in our own city and country. National tournament pennants are awarded every year to classes that successfully complete twelve consecu- tive weeks of faithful performance of Crusade health habit rules. A very commendable record was made by the Cook County schools this last year; thirty-six pennants were awarded. Two of these were received in St. Joseph's school at Ridge and Lake avenues. The work is in charge of Miss Fran- ces A. Cook, director of child health education for the Chicago Tuberculosis institute, 360 North Michigan avenue. Webster Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Jackson of 1195 Asbury avenue, is spending the holidays with his parents. He is a student at Beloit college, Beloit, Wis.,, and has distin- guished himself by being elected Freshman class president this year. He is a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
