: 5 5 § ¢ 5 | | AY 56 WINNETKA TALK April 2, 1927 Legion to Frolic at Woman's Club Monday, April 18 Plans are going forward for the "Le- gion Frolic" which Winnetka Post No. 10, American Legion will give at the Winnetka Women's club Easter Monday, April 18. The proceeds are to go into the Post's service fund and the public is invited to lend liberal aid in this worthy cause. Among the many attractions to be offered will be dancing, music for which will be "furnished by Wally Dehmlow's six-piece orchestra, special song numbers, a prize dance contest and a prize beauty contest. In addition to valuable prizes to be awarded, the fortunate winner in the beauty contest will receive the honor of being voted the "North Shore Le- gion Peach." Young Men's Class Ends Successful Bowling Year The Young Men's class of the Win- netka Congregational church met at the Woman's club Friday night and concluded the bowling season with an evening of sport on the alleys. The class plans to open the baseball sea- son soon. Sunday morning the class joins with the Men's class at 9:30 o'clock in the Legion room, Com- munity House, to hear Dr. Paul Hutchinson discuss the "Official Rela- tions between the United States and China." All men of the village are invited. PLAN BRIDGE PARTY The Indian Hill Improvement asso- ciation will give a bridge party Mon- day evening, April 11, for members and their friends. There will be at- tractive prizes. NOTICE OF ELECTION Notice is hereby given that on Satur- day, the 9th day of April, 1927, an election will be held at the Horace Mann School for the purpose of electing a President and Two Members of the Board of Educa- tion, for District No. 36, of Township No. 42, Range 13 East, in Cook County, Illi- nois. LIEBER, Secretary of the Board of Education. C. A. Eckstrom Summoned by Death Last Tuesday C. A. Eckstorm, well known Chicago architect, with offices at 5 North LaSalle street, died Tuesday evening, March 29, at 5 o'clock, at Grant hos- pital, following an illness of three months' duration. Mr. Eckstorm was architect for a number of the origi- nal buildings of the University of Chi- cago. He 1s survived by his wife and one daughter, and also a sister, Miss Caroline Eckstrom, of 888 Oak street, Winnetka. Funeral services were con- ducted Thursday from the residence, 717 Gordon terrace, by the Rev. James Austin Richards, pastor of the Win- netka Congregational church. Burial was at Graceland. Village Board Authorizes Purchase of Motorcycles The motorcycle squad of the Win- netka police department is to have two new Indian motorcycles. Thee Excel- siors have formerly comprised this equipment, but an additional machine is now required. At the meeting of the Village council Tuesday evening, Vil- lage Manager H. L. Woolhiser was authorized to purchase the new ma- chines, thus providing a team of In- dians and a team of Excelsiors. Miss Caroline Roberts and Miss Jeanette Olmstead of Winnetka are two of the four Chicago girls at Smith college who made Phi Beta Kappa this year, the national scholastic fraternity for both men and women students. -- Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Reichmann of Barrington, formerly of Kenilworth, returned to their home March 24, from a Mediterranean cruise. They expected to be gone until May but Mr. Reichmann was called home on business. inp.
