Capt. |Otto Fricke and his crew from the | coast guard station in Evanston were called at 11 o'clock. They went to the aid of the yacht [in their power boat, righted her, and took her and her two men occupants to Wilmette harbor. Tuesday Captain Fricke and his men freed a motor cruiser, which had gone aground off Highland park on July 1. The boat, belonging to Bert Covert of Chicago, was released from {its high and dry perch by shoveling |away the sand. She was then calked |and taken to Wilmette harbor after | work which had consumed the morn- ing. | Gives Dramatic Reading at National College July 20 Caroline Crawford Mclean, who is | giving an interesting course in dramatic art in the National Kindergarten and Elementary college this summer, will | give a dramatic reading at the assembly | on Wednesday afternoon, July 20. Mrs. Mclean, who was formerly a | member of the faculty of Teachers | college, Columbia university, is well | known throughout the country, both | as an instructor in the field of dramatic art and as the author of several books of rhythms and rhythmic plays. The following extract is from an interest- ing account of Mrs. McLean's work which appeared in the New York "Telegraph" this spring: "Miss Crawford (Mrs. McLean) was | one of the first American educators to recognize the place the dance occupies in the evolution of arts and to treat the folk dance as a legitimate part of folk drama--for the dramas of all primitive peoples are portrayed in rhythmic pantomime. She believes that | the development of character is closely | related to the study and expression of a child's evolution in character mani- festation and accordingly has traced in her books the beginnings of the earliest | childlike forms in logical as well as | psychological order."
