C.'s won the first lap in the race for the north shore cham- pionship on the baseball diamond, in its game with Wilmette, Sunday, shut- ting out their opponents with a score tof 7 to 0. Cavanaugh, in the box for Glencoe, allowed his opponents only three hits, two of which were claimed by Jack the outstanding star in the game for Wilmette. Nichols, the brilliant catcher on the Glencoe team, was the stellar attrac- tion in the stick work for his team, scoring three hits and a walk in his four times up. Much interest is centered in this series, attested by the large number of fans present at the opening game. Wilmette, undaunted by the over- whelming defeat administered by her contenders from the north, promises to return for the second game, next Sunday, with a resolution to tie the honors. The game will be played at Glencoe, and Manager Bill Schroeder and his C. C's will have the added advantage of playing on their home diamond. The batteries will probably be Cav- anaugh and Nichols for Glencoe and Boesch and Bernardi for Wilmette. : OPENS STUDIO Prof. John Borino is opening his studio at 859 Elm street, Winnetka. Winn. 225 AL WINS PRO TITLE Illinois Professional Club Champion- ship Goes to Al Espinosa After Close Finals With George Arnold There is jubilation and much of it at the Illinois Golf club. It is because the "knocking crashed professional, at the door" through Al Espinosa, club's who has been for several last week and registered able triumph in capturing the cham- pionship the Illinois Professional club. To win the Es- pinosa was forced to set a killing pace George Arnold, in the Westmoreland years, a most not- of championship for his opponent, the finals. Arnold, clubmaker, played figures for the thirty holes played but Espinosa won 8 and 6. Espinosa has win other champion- ships, and his latest victory enabled him to carry to his home club the big silver cup which goes to the winner. The tournament just finished was play- ed at Glen Acres. Espinosa never played more won- derful golf. Right from the start he drove, approached and putted in un- canny fashion. Arnold, who gained fame seven or eight years ago by being a runner-up in the French Open also was playing great golf as is in- dicated by the fact that he played to par figures in the morning round of the 36 hole final. But par opposition meant little to Espinosa, for he had the Westmoreland man 2 down at lunch time. Then followed the abbreviated after- noon round and more deadly work by Espinosa. Arnold was only two strokes over par in the afternoon play but in spite of his good shooting Espinosa picked up hole after hole and at the twelfth green had the Westmoreland player down five more, the match end- ing there. to average par STATED MEETING ANNOUNCED On Monday evening, September 12, the regular stated meeting of Win- netka chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will be held.
