Highest honors went to DesPlaines, which netted a gain of 604 percent in the August to August comparisons, according to the building survey de- partment of S. W. Straus and company, who compiled the figures. DesPlaines captured honors in the comparisons with July this year. Its gain was 1080 percent After a lapse in honor taking our neighbors to the south, Gary and Ham- mond, came through with substantial increases. Gary made an August gain of 54 percent and Hammond showed a 24 percent gain. Glencoe took third honors, with 140 percent gain, while Winnetka placed fourth with an increase of 133 percent. Second place honors went to the south- ern tier of suburbs, with Harvey hold- ing and increase over August of last year of 153 percent. Wilmette's Au- gust total was given as $144,890, with no record for the preceding year. In the traditional race for supremacy between Oak Park and Evanston, Oak Park nosed out an honor place with a 4 percent gain for the month. Evans- ton was forced to stand a building con- struction loss of 53 percent, although as against July this year Evanston had an increase of 24 percent. Eastman Attends Meeting of Financial Advertisers Charles J. Eastman of Winnetka, advertising manager for Taylor, Ewart and company, investment securities, recently attended the 12th annual con- vention of the Financial Advertisers association at West Baden, Ind. Mr. Eastman addressed the convention on "The Use of the Disclaimer Clause in Advertising," and also presented a re- port on financial newspaper rates which aroused considerable comment. Install Call Signal for Kenilworth Police Force Installation of a police call signal on the top of the Kenilworth water tower, located west of the railroad right-of-ways, was authorized upon the recommendation of the Kenilworth police department and the concurrence of the Police committe of the Village board.
