Friday evening, November 11, Mrs. Hobert Howard gave a buffet supper followed by a very jolly evening of games for the Horace Mann school teachers and their friends. The big Parent Teacher association meeting of October 25 was very well attended. Fathers and mothers num- bering nearly 300 visited their chil- dren's rooms before hearing Mr. Washburne's illustrated talk. Miss Ness recently gave a talk to all fifth grade pupils, on Greek art, illustrated by slides from the Art In- stitute. Friday, November 18, Mr. Hanson gave a violin concert under the aus- pices of Thomas Whitney Surette's course of musical appreciation for the children. This was the second concert of the year in connection with the school music. Last week was National Education Week, and there were many visitors. Not so many parents took the oppor- tunity of visiting the school, but Miss Hartwell, the princpal, says that Hor- ace Mann parents visit all during the vear. Among the visitors were some from Bohemia, the first to be sent to this country to study our system of education. Officers of the Horace Mann P. T. A. are as follows: chairman social com- mittee, Mrs. Harry Clarke; chairman membership committee, Mrs. Harold Wilder; Horace Mann chairman, Mrs. John Reilley; vice-chairman, Mrs. John Ritchie; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. Clarke Washburne. Observe Armistice Day With Play at Country Day The program to commemorate Armistice day at the North Shore Country Day school consisted of the presentation of a one-act play by Bar- rie, called "The Old Lady Shows Her Medals." The play was staged by members of the Eleventh grade English class. The setting of the play is in London, in war time, and shows an incident from the war in the lives of four old London scrub-women and one Scotch private. After the play, the entire school marched out of the assembly hall and gathered around the flag-pole, where exercises were held in memory of the men killed in the war. Bruce Thomas Will Speak to Young People's Group Bruce Thomas of Winnetka is to give a talk on "The Evolution of Protestan- tism" Sunday afternoon, November 20, at 5:45 o'clock, before the Kenilworth Young People's club at the Kenilworth Union church. A supper is to be served prior to the meeting. Last Sun- day Frederick E. Clerk, superintendent of the New Trier High school, gave an illustrated lecture on "China" before this group of young people.
