November 19, 1927 WINNETKA TALK Travels Beat to 3 Score and 10 Mark; Retires Next Month Officer John Dehmlow, who, for 28 years, with credit and honor to both himself and the village, the Winnetka ment, is approaching has worn a Police depart- two star of important epochs in his busy life. On Wednesday of next week he will have reached the three score and ten milestone in his life's journey, and the close of this year will mark the com- pletion of his official duties to the vil- lage, when he will retire on a pension. Officer Dehmlow has been a resident of Winnetka 33 years. For thirty of those years he has been in the employ of the village, being associated with the street department prior to joining the police force. For several years John Dehmlow has endeared himself to the children of Horace Mann school, at Elm and Chestnut streets, where, with faithful vigilance each morning, noon and eve- ning of school days, he guarded the little tots from harm as they passed this busy corner to and from school. His services, in late years, particular- ly, have also been of inestimable value to the department in his courteous, but efficient work in directing automobile parking regulations of the village. Sticks to His Bike Police cars and motorcycles have been added to the department equip- ment during John Dehmlow's connec- tion therewith, but he has remained faithful to his bicycle, on which, to this day, he travels about on his varied duties. Mr. and Mrs. Dehmlow reside at 892 Elm street. Their son, Walter Dehm- low, conducts the Winnetka Bruns- wick shop at 570 Lincoln avenue; Charles, another son, formerly with the Winnetka postoffice, also resides in Winnetka, as does their daughter, Mrs. John Dethloff, whose husband conducts a men's furnishings store at 786 Elm street. A third son, Edward, resides in Highland Park. Winnetka Scout Notes Andrew Anderson of Streator, III, district governor of the Rotary club, was present at a meeting of the Winnetka Bd8y Scouts last Thursday night and spoke briefly at dismissal. Officers and committee chairmen of the local chapter of the Rotary club were also present. Mr. Anderson reviewed the scouts in the dismissal asscmbly and ceremony. No meeting of the Winnetka scouts will be held next Thursday because of the Thanksgiving holi- days, it was announced this week by Chief J. W. F. Davies. At the meeting of December 1, an initiation of all new second and first class scouts will be held. The meet- ing will start at 8:30 and will be held at Community House. Because of the large number of members in Winnetka troop num- ber 4, which now has a registra- tion of nearly forty members, the troop is being divided and a new troop formed. The later organiza- tion will be known as troop 5. Scoutmaster A. Sherman Aldrich will continue as the leader of troop 4 and E. B. Brown will take charge of the new organization.
