ow January 21, 1928 WINNETKA TALK ~N TO FINISH M"CORMICK LIGHTS THIS SPRING Sanitary Board Appropriates for Bridges, Landscaping in Evanston Area Improvements of the North Shore channel allowed for in the budget an- nounced a week ago by P. J. Crowe, president of the Sanitary district, in- clude the landscaping of the canal banks, the completion of the installa- tion of the McCormick road lighting system and the erection of bridges as the items which will be direct im- provements of the canal section be- tween Howard street and Lake Michi- gan. Of the more than one million dollars appropriated for these items, the ex- act amount which will be allowed for improvements of the Evanston section of the channel has not been specified. "The extent of the work in Evanston depends on what the city of Chicago does," states John T. Miller, district engineer. If Chicago widens. Lincoln avenue, a new bridge will be built for that road, and the amount avail- able for Evanston's section will be lessened. However, erection of new bridges at Oakton street and Demp- ster street are before the trustees, states Mr. Miller. Devon avenue is another of the 5 or 6 crossings for which bridges are being considered. For bridges, $400,000 was appropriated in the budget. Installation of the McCormick road lights will be completed early this spring. For the work remaining to be done $550,000 was appropriated. Thousand candle power units are be- ing used, erected on concrete lamp standards placed opposite each other and having 100-foot centers. For the landscaping of the west banks of the c%annel $150,000 was al- lowed in the budget. TO SING AT ORIENTAL Richard J.
