January 28, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Dean of Women Advises Girls Entering College Mrs. W. G. Richardson, dean of women at Northwestern university, was the speaker at an assembly held last Tuesday morning at New Trier High school. This was one of a series of assemblies given for the sen- ior girls this year. In view of the fact that the girls were Seniors and the majority plan- ning to attend college, Mrs. Richard- son chose as her subject, the prob- lems which confront the young girl when she first enters college. Having come in contact with so many young women and helping with so many problems, Mrs. Richardson was able to discuss with keen under- standing and clearness these problems and their solutions. The greatest difficulty, she said, is to establish the right amount of time to be spent for educational pursuit, activities, and social affairs, and she suggested that the girls think of a right triangle with the three angles representing those three things, and that they try to keep these equal throughout their college careers. She also spoke of students' atti- tude toward college when they enter and suggested that if they entered with their motto, "everything to help, and nothing to hinder," their college life would be much happier than if they entered with the wrong attitude. Chatten of 1025 Dinsmore road, Winnetka, was one of the hostess regents who assisted at the bridge, musicale, and tea given Saturday of last week in the Gold ballroom of the Hotel LaSalle by the five Chicago chapters of the Daughters of the American Revolution for the benefit of the "Million by March" fund for the new national D.
