8a February 4, 1928 WINNETKA "TALK 17 New Trier Downs M orton Swimmers in Double Meet New Trier High school swimmers gave a double beating to Morton last Saturday afternoon at New Trier when the grey-and-green seniors were vic- torious by the score of 39 to 20 and the juniors conquered 34 to 16 The home team jumped into the lead when Captain Bennett took first place in the forty yard swim; Morton, how- ever, tied the score as Tucker of that school took first honors in the 100 yard freestyle event. The visitors forged ahead as a result of the 220 yard freestyle race, as McDonald of the Cicero team garnered first place in this event. The 100 yard breast- stroke and the 60 yard backstroke both went to New Trier who captured first and second places in each. In an unusually fine exhibition of diving, D. Granstrom of New Trier clinched the meet for New Trier when he was awarded first place. In the very re- spectable time of 1:29 the New Trier seniors took the relay. The junior meet went against the home squad when Donicek took first in the forty yard swim, but Coach Jackson's men came back by taking the 100 yard swim, the breaststroke and backstroke, the diving and the relay. Larner of the New Trier juniors, scored the highest number of indi- vidual points. Substituted at the last moment in the diving, he took first place in this, took a second place in the forty and third in the hundred yard swims with nine points altogether.
