March 3, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Housewarming Edition Report Farm Land Situation Showing Big Improvement According to the report published in the National Associaticn News Service for February 7 and based on a survey of farm conditions in seventy- two states, the farm land situation shows a decided improvement both in acreage sold and prices paid. More farm lands were sold in 1927 than in 1926. A comparison of values in many communities shows that present prices are above the pre-war level. The Chicago Daily News on Febru- ary 2 stated that a farm in Urbana, Illinois, sold at $170 an acre. The farmers themselves are most optimistic over the present favorable situation. The number of foreclosures during 1927 has decreased decidedly as com- pared with 1926. The general trend of prices is un- questionably upward and it is interest- ing to note that farms are being pur- chased by persons either as business enterprises or as homes, which indi- cates stability in the future.
