8 tio March 10, 1928 WINNETKA TALK Picture Reviews 030) a Oa Oa Oem *y¢ Line-O-News F Dick Barthelmess doesn't: quit popping up with something to talk about you'll be accusing me of playing favorites. Now he's coming back to Chicago, via McVickers, in "The Patent Leather Kid," which is, as you have doubtless heard before, very good. * kx "Juno and the Paycock," a comedy in three acts by Sean O'Casey, was presented for the first time in the Blackstone theater by .the Irish Play- ers last Sunday. It. isa "rich and varied production and should merit anyone's earnest attention. * x %x It seems that the most outstanding releases in Chicago this week are "Red Hair," with Clara Bow, at the Chicago; "Rose Marie," a Joan Craw- ford vehicle, at the Oriental; and "Ad- ventures in Pygmy-Land" at the Play- house. The latter is another of the natural science films and was taken by Dr. Matthew W. Stirling in his search for the little race in the heart of Dutch New Guinea under the aus- pices of the Smithsonian institution. It is a real treat. * x x Deviating slightly from the strictly "theater," Galli-Curci makes her last appearance of the season at Orchestra hall Sunday afternoon. a Jeanne Fagels is packing her trunks for the "jump" to Milwaukee with "Her Cardboard Lover," which finishes its run at the Adelphi this week. : * kx % Ethel Waters and her dusky troop will make "Africana" known to Chi- cago audiences at the Adelphi this Sunday. All indications point to an exceedingly interesting production. x kk Jack Dempsey's better-half, Estelle Taylor, is back on the Fox lot playing opposite George O'Brien in "Honor Bound." * kx Lon Chaney is now preparing "Laugh, Clown, Laugh" on the Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer lot. It appears that Lon just can't keep from scandalizing the public. * kx William Haines, who also hangs out with M-G-M, is at work thinking up more "wise cracks." His present creation, "The Smart Set," should ap- pear in this vicinity before very long. * % "Companionate Marriage" makes its world premier at the New Evanston next Monday. This play, by Jane Ball, will, it is said, be produced in New York and Chicago in the very . near future. --Hub. COMMUNITY HOUSE Tues., Mar. 13 Fri, Mar. 16 REX Noah Beery 'Wild Horse Chas) Yamal Geo. Bancro "WILD » Mary Astor BEAUTY Frank Hopper " with "THE une Marlowe ROUGH Mike & Ike Comedy RIDERS" "The Gaucho" Next Week's Feature Film at Norshore For the entertainment of his jazz- ridden fans, Al Kvale and his musical viziers will, during the week of March 12, undertake to reproduce "Arabian Nights," the showing of which created a commendable stir among Paul Ash's followers when he enacted it at his loop theater. Al himself will impersonate the Mikado, throwing aside his usual an- tics, and endeavor in his capable fash- ion to reproduce the same atmosphere as his predecessor. Scheherazade will recount her world-known tales in realistic fashion, right from the Norshore stage. Once more, as in days gone by, the door of imagination will creak slowly open to let the grown-up boys and girls peep into their one-time fairyland. Aladdin will rub his magic lamp, in his desire for untold riches and delightful maid- ens--Ali Babba and the forty thieves will once again come béfore one's tired eyes. Douglas Fairbanks' latest, "The Gaucho," will flash across the silver screen in his usual dashing and auda- cious manner. After remaining away from films for over a year, Doug comes back in amazing fashion. The star has the role of a bandit chief, the leader of a horde of Gaucho riders, who cross the mountains and occupy a stately shrine city whose wealth is the prey of the cruel usurper of the country.
