March 17, 1928 WINNETKASTALK 15 Spring Is Here! At Least for Our Local Ball Club All the early season baseball gos- sip is not confined to the Major league training programs, not by any means, particularly in Winnetka, where the local team last year distinguished it- self by its splendid organization and playing, and where plans are already underway for the coming season. A meeting will be held at Commun- ity House, Friday evening, March 23, at 7:30 o'clock, to which everyone wishing to try out for this year's team is urged to attend. A tenta- tive schedule of games for the sea- son will be presented for considera- tion at this time, and a manager, or field captain will be appointed. The coming meeting is not alone for those wishing to get their names on the try-out list for positions on the team, but any resident of the village interested in the continued success of local baseball, will be welcome. Earl Smith, well known pitcher of two years ago, who distinguished him- self on the local team that season, is back in the village, and will be on the pitching staff of the team this year. There is a lot of good talent avail- able, and the outlook for developing the best team in Winnetka's baseball history, is very promising, it is said. The team last year, in its schedule of sixteen Sunday games, won ten of that number, and among its oppon- ents were numbered some of the best amateur teams in this section.
