OF W. Word has been received from the University of Wisconsin that Miss Katherine Sherman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Sherman, 1062 Ash street, has been elected to the national honorary sociological fraternity, Alpha Kappa Delta. This is one of the big sociological honors of the university and is based on scholarship, personali- ty, and manifest ability in the field of sociology. It is an even more signal honor when the fact that Miss Sher- man is taking her course in about three years is considered. Miss Phoebie Tuells, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis F. Tuells, 918 Linden avenue, spent last week-end with her parents. Miss Tuells entertained three of her friends from Rockford college, where she is a sophomore. While the girls were visiting on the north shore they saw "Good News" in Chicago. --_0-- Nathaniel L. Hurd, 518 Sunset road, spent last week-end in etroit on business. While there Mr. Hurd in- vestigated several airships. --0-- Mr. and Mrs. J. Anthony Humphreys of 543 Chestnut street, announce the birth of a son, Thomas Hadley Hum- phreys, on April 29. i.) Big Ten Athletes Compete for Olympic Games Tryouts Western conference track teams got down to serious preparation this week for the Big Ten Outdoor track and field championships to be held at Northwestern university May 25 and 26. Nearly all of the teams have scheduled dual meets for the next few weeks to give coaches an oppor- tunity to judge the material available for the big meet. The championships this year are in the nature of an Olympic tryout for the Conference stars, since winners of first and sec- ond places will be eligible to compete at Harvard in the final tryouts. Near- ly a score of Big Ten athletes have a good chance of making the trip to Amsterdam and they can be counted upon te give their best in the coming meet to assure an opportunity of try- ing out at Harvard. BERNIE STUDIO 1623 Sherman Avenue (Opposite Postoffice) Phone University 8998 Bernie Studio Opens in Sherman Ave. Quarters The Bernie studio, widely known for its portraits of babies and children, opens this week in its new quarters in the Church street building, 1623 Sherman ave- nue, Evanston, opposite the city hall. Bernard J. Burns, owner, has designed his new studio in keeping with the latest trend in art. Furnishings, hangings, rough plaster finish of the walls, iron grilles and other accessories of the studio are in the Spanish mode. Mr. Burns' por- traits of children have achieved such note that his ex- hibit at the recent annual convention of the national Photographers' associa- tion has been made a part of that organization's traveling loan exhibit. The Bernie studio's former location B. J. Burns was 1623 Orrington avenue.
