May 5, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 57 BUILDING IN WILMETTE IN APRIL SHOWS DECLINE Permits Issued for Five Resi- dences Costing $122,000--Total for Month Is $146,384 Building activities in Wilmette in April, as far as dollars and cents are concerned, were 45 percent less than in April a year ago, but the 33 per- mits issued were only one less than the number in the corresponding month of 1927. Five new residences were authorized last month, totaling $122,000, five were for remodeling work costing $11,800, while 23 of the 33 permits were for private garages costing $12,584. The grand total for the month was $146,384. The total for April last year was $213,275 Two of the permits issued the past month were for residences in the In- dian Hill Estates, one for $30,000 and the other for $47,000, the former be- ing to R. H. Henderson, who is build- ing at 2710 Blackhawk road, and the latter to Fred G. Becker, who is building at 2745 Ashland avenue. Walter Lagerlof is building a two story brick veneer residence at 221 Linden avenue, costing $20,000; Charles W. Reese a $20,000 brick veneer residence and garage at 1320 Isabella street, and William Ball a $12,000 brick veneer residence at 2013 Highland avenue. Mallers Buys Kenilworth Corner; on Sheridan Road Bills Realty Inc., of Sheridan road, "No Man's Land," reports the follow- ing sales: The northwest corner of Melrose and Sheridan road, Kenilworth, wood- ed lot, to E. B. Mallers who is one of the owners of the Mallers Building in Chicago by E. F. Hamm who pur- chased it from the Joseph Sears Es- tate about one year ago. This corner has long been sought for a home site, but could not be obtained except by the purchase of the entire block which Mr. Hamm acquired, and has now dis- posed of, except a portion that he is reserving for his own home. Lamoreaux purchased the house at 226 Sheridan road, Winnetka from Leah White. D. McDougal was broker for both parties. Carl Lystrom of Chicago purchased the house at 558 Hill Terrace, Win- netka, from T. S. Williamson. Mrs. Joyce represented all parties. Frank Sayles of Glencoe rented the house at 1111 Merrill avenue, Win- netka, from N. Landon Hoyt of Win- netka. Miss Bauman represented all parties.
