The golden text was from John 1:12, 13, "As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God." Among the citations which comprised the lesson-sermon was the following from the Bible: God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands; Neither is worshipped with men's hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things; For in him we live, and move, and have our being" (Acts 17:24, 25:28). The lesson-sermon also included the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," by Mary Baker Eddy: "As mortals begin to understand Spirit, they give up the belief that there is any true existence apart from God" (p. 283). CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICE "Soul and Body" will be the subject at the First Church of Christ, Scien- tist, in Winnetka, Sunday morning, May 20, at the 11 o'clock services. MORRIS VEHON, President. 1641 ORRINGTON AVENUE Open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday Evenings All the Earmarks of 'Love Child Wisely But Not Too Well, Expert's Advice Love your child wisely, but not too well, That was the advice which Dr. John J. Morgan, associate professor of psy- chology at Northwestern university, gave a group of north shore mothers at the National Kindergarten and Elementary college last Monday. "The mother who devours her child with hugs and kisses and constant attention is doing a pernicious thing," Dr. Morgan said. The over-affection- ate parent smothers her child's indi- viduality and prevents its natural growth, The result will be, in later years, that the child will resent the restraint and will fight for freedom. He will refuse to have all his decisions made for him. He will want to live his own life. Then he'll make a clean break and all the love which was selfishly lavished by the mother will be entirely lost." Furthermore, love which absorbs the entire personality of the child into the mother's self is merely an expression of the mother's love for herself, Dr. Morgan said. The unselfish mother realizes that her child has a right to live its own life and she makes no attempt to bind it with affection. "True affection does not mean an increasing intimacy of the bonds which tie mother and child together," Dr. Morgan told the mothers' association, "but it means that the mother has a better and better understanding of the sort of child which is developing as the days go by. "Such an understanding involves some conception of where the child's life is pointing, an analysis of the things that will be for the child's best interest and guidance, and a desire to assist the child in realizing his inter- ests." Oftentimes, Dr. Morgan said, the child of an over-affectionate parent will develop a feeling of antipathy and hatred toward its mother which will persist all through life, AID JUNIOR SCHOOL Mrs. Arthur Schwarz and Mrs. Adolph R.
