May 26, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 19 ANNOUNCE N. K. E. C. COMMENCEMENT PLANS Dr. Herbert L. Willett of Kenil- worth to Give Baccalaureate Sermon June 3 An interesting program has been ar- ranged for Commencement week at the National Kindergarten and Ele- mentary college. Saturday, June 2, is the annual alumnae day, opening with the business session and election of officers at 10 o'clock in Harrison hall, followed by an address "Present Trends in Early Elementary Educa- tion" by President Edna Dean Baker. The alumnae luncheon, at which mem- bers of the graduating classes will be entertained, will be held at the close of the morning's program. On Saturday evening the students will hold their Commencement Prom in the Sovereign hotel, Chicago, hav- ing as their guests the members of the Senior class. The Baccalaureate service will be held in the college at 3 o'clock Sun- day afternoon, June 3. Dr. Herbert L. Willett of the University of Chicago, and the Kenilworth Union church will give the address, and a special musi- cal program by the student choir has] been arranged under the direction of Miss Louise St. John Westervelt. Tuesday afternoon the students will entertain 500 children from mission schools and orphanages on the col- lege campus. This frolic is an annual affair, and the children's enjoyment of the out-of-doors, the balloons, flowers and ice cream which are part of the entertainment, makes the afternoon one of the brightest spots of the com- mencement festivities. The forty-second annual commence- ment will be held in Harrison hall at three o'clock on Wednesday after- noon, June 6. Dr. Edwin D. Starbuck of the University of Iowa will give the commencement address, followed by the granting of degrees and diplomas and the awarding of the honorary scholarships. Give Baha'i Lecture in Foundation Hall The concluding Baha'i lecture in the present series by Dr. Albert R. Vail, of Evanston, is announced for Sunday afternoon, May 27, at 4 o'clock, in the Foundation hall at Linden avenue near Sheridan road, Wilmette. The sub- ject will be "The Baha'i Movement-- The Synthetic Religion." Seekers for the realities of religion, students of humanitarian and world subjects, and the public generally, are cordially and especially invited, it is explained. This, like all Baha'i public lectures, is free and no collections are taken. Various Baha'i literature and publi- cations may be examined in the hall, both before and after the address. CHANGES MEETING DAY The Home and Garden club of Ken- ilworth will meet on Saturday of this week instead of Monday next, which is the regular day. The members will assemble at the home of Mrs. Henry Taylor on Essex road, and drive out to view the gardens of Lake Forest which will be open to the public on that day. TO SPEAK AT ALLIANCE The next meeting of the Southern Woman's Educational alliance will be held at the Stevens hotel Monday, May 28, at. 1 o'clock. Dr. O. L. Hatcher of Richmond, Va., the organizer of sthis work, will speak on educational and vocational work for southern girls. Bridge Tea for Vets Realizes About $500 By P. H. Nearly $500 was raised at the bridge- tea given last week at the Kenilworth club by members of the committee from the Neighbors for the work among ex-service men at Great Lakes. This climaxed the chairmanship of Mrs. Joseph Joyce. Mrs. Joyce, who has been chairman of this phase of club work for the tenth district, has given unstintingly of her time and energy in this cause and from all sides one hears nothing but the highest praise of her efforts. During her ad- ministration the interest has steadily increased until every woman now feels that the men at the Great Lakes are in some way her responsibility and that the annual benefit tea or bridge has become a permanent institution. Mrs. Frank Nason and Mrs. James Prentiss are to assume the responsi- bility of this work for the Neighbors for the coming season. Mrs. Thomas White of Richmonc road, Kenilworth, entertained on Tues- day of this week in honor of Mrs. Carpenter's houseguests. On Thurs- day Mrs. Edwin Hedrick entertained a similar group. & TID I TOTO Jewelry | Always An | | Appreciated Gift| For the Graduate For the girl--a beauti- ful wrist watch or a gold fountain pen.
