June 9, 1928 WINNETKA "TALK 15 Honors for Pupils at Final Assembly of New Trier Year At a recognition assembly held at New Trier last Tuesday morning many students received prizes and awards for various achievements. The first awards were made by Otto R. Barnett of Glencoe, who has made it his custom to award in the spring of each year prizes for the three best bird essays by New Trier students. This year the awards went to Robert King, Wilmette; Grace Cooke, Wil- mette, and Robert Wilkins, Wilmette. The next award, sponsored by the Wilmette State bank, was made for the three best scholars in the depart- ment. The winners were Victor Dein- lein, Wilmette; Howard Bleser, Wil- mette, and Vera McKay, Wilmette. The Harvard Book prize, given by the Harvard Club of Chicago to the best junior student at New Trier each: year, was awarded to Robert Marcus of Wilmette. The assembly closed with the sing- ing of the New Trier Loyalty song. It was the last time the entire stu- dent body will be assembled in the auditorium, since future assemblies will be held in the new gymnasium of the school. Winnetka Girl Wins Many Honors While at Smith Miss Virginia De Lay, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold S. De Lay of 878 Oak street, will receive her B.A. degree June 18, at the fiftieth annual commencement exercises at Smith college. Miss De Lay is a graduate of New Trier. At Smith she majored in his- tory and her outside activities included membership in the Soccer team, the Hockey, Baseball, and Basketball teams. She was a member of the Dramatic association, the Silver Bay delegation, the Glee club, and the Physics club, which is a departmental club for students who have shown marked ability and interest in the work of the department. Miss De Lay was also on the All-Smith Soccer team. MADE CLUB LIBRARIAN Stewart Boal, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ayres Boal, 701 Sheridan road, a sophomore at Harvard university, has been elected librarian of the Circulo Italiano club, according to an an- nouncement made recently, which states that, "The purpose of this club is to foster and maintain the study of and the interest in Italian literature among the students of the university. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. M. Miller, 936 Fim street, returned home recently from a fourteen day motor tour through Wisconsin and Minnesota. Bride of June 16 The marriage of Miss Fae Lorine Christiansen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Christiansen of Wilmette to Leslie Harry Huettman, also of Wil- mette, is to take place Saturday, June 16, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at Christ church, Winnetka. MOTORING EAST Mr. and Mrs. Edward C. Kohlsaat of 77 Bryant avenue left last Thursday, June 7, to motor east. They will go first to Poughkeepsie to join Miss Susanne and Miss Cynthia who will complete their junior year at Vassar, June 12, and then they will go to Harvard to get their son, Edward, Jr., who finishes his school work the same day. The Kohlsaats will then motor to Washington and will return to Princeton in time for the prom which is to take place June 18, as the Misses Kohlsaat are to be at Princeton for the prom week-end. The Kohlsaat family plans to be at home in Winnetka most of the summer. The Victor Elting home at 830 Mt. Pleasant road is being taken for the summer by the William Rehms.
