June 9, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 17 320 NEW TRIER GRADS Commencement Exercises at High School to be Held Thursday Eve- ning, June 14 The largest graduating class in the history of New Trier high school will receive diplomas at the graduation ex- ercises of the school next Thursday evening, June 14. The final list' of graduates has not been made out, but about 320 will receive diplomas, it is stated. This year's commencement exercises will be held in the new gymnasium at New Trier for the first time. The doors will open at 7:30, and reserved seats on the main floor which are not occu- pied by 8 o'clock will be re-sold. Dr. Fred Eastman, of the Chicago Theological Seminary, is the com- mencement speaker. His subject will be "The Crowd and You." The student musical organization will have a part in this year's program, This is a departure from the custom which has been followed in the past. Another change from the plan fol- lowed in previous years is the opening up of the balconies to the public. Gen- eral admission tickets will be sold for the balcony, but there will be no re- served seats as on the main floor. So far as it is known this year's class is the first in which the girls have out- numbered the boys. Catholic League to Have Annual Luncheon June 19 The new Columbian Country club on Milwaukee avenue, located one mile north of the Dundee road, is to be the setting for the annual luncheon of the North Shore Catholic Woman's league Tuesday, June 19, at 12:30 o'clock. Bridge, five-hundred, and bunco, with attractive prizes given for each game, will be played following the luncheon. Mrs. L. J. Hillman, 353 Park avenue, Glencoe, is in charge of reservations and is chairman for the luncheon. Mrs. William Schildgen of Evanston is president of the organization and Mrs. R. D. Hessey of Highland Park is program chairman. ENTERTAIN FOR BRIDE-ELECT Mrs. Harry E. Pollard of 1437 Edge- wood lane, Winnetka, will entertain sixteen guests June 9, at a bridge and miscellaneous shower in honor of Miss Fae Christiansen of Wilmette whose marriage to Leslie Harry Huettman will take place on June 16, at Christ church, Winnetka. Miss Ruth Blumenstock is returning to her home in Winnetka June 12, to spend her summer vacation. She is completing her junior year at the University of Syracuse, N. Y. Fine Scholar Miss Louise Henrekson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Henrekson, 125 Washington avenue, Wilmette, was awarded the Mrs. John N. Crouse scholarship at the commencement exercises of the National Kindergarten and Elementary college held in Harri- son hall Wednesday afternoon, June 6. This scholarship is one of the two hon- orary scholarships presented to the College each year by the Alumnae as- sociation in memory of the founders of the college, Miss Elizabeth Harri- son and Mrs. John N. Crouse, and is awarded to the student in recognition of outstanding scholastic attainment, character and contribution to the school. Artist Sails Abroad as Herald for World's Fair Dudley Crafts Watson of Ravinia, Art institute extension lecturer, is on his way to Europe as a herald of the Chicago World's Fair of 1933 to Euro- pean art circles. Mr. Watson will confer with museum curators, directors of art schools, art- ists, and collectors. He will talk be- fore art circles to interest them in sending displays of the fine arts and handicrafts to the Chicago fair. Mr. Watson left Chicago June 4, for New York, sailing on Saturday, June 9, for Europe. He will return late in August. Miss Helen Runnfeldt of 1037 Spruce street left Friday of last week for a month's visit with her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Willis of Denver, Col. Mrs. Willis was Leila Runnfeldt.
