June 9, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 63 FAVOR BAR NOMINEES With an extremely light and scat- tered vote recorded, New Trier citizens last Monday gave a substantial major-» ity to the candidates in the county Judicial election who had the endorse- ment of the Chicago Bar association. The vote, here as elsewhere in the county, was one of the lightest on record and in decided contrast with the remarkably heavy vote polled in recent spring primaries. Mrs. Robert H. Ripley of 29 Indian Hill road returned Wednesday, June 6, from a short visit with her youngest son at Pinehurst. VILLAGE OF WINNETKA NOTICE Winnetka, Illinois, June 9, 1928. NOTICE IS HEREBY. GIVEN that sealed bids for the construction of a re- inforced concrete pavement with concrete combined curb and gutter, described as follows: Beginning at and connecting with the existing macadam pavement in GREEN BAY ROAD at a line at right angles to the northeasterly line (as now occupied) of said Green Bay Road, through a point one hundred fifty-five (155) feet north- westerly (as measured along said north- easterly line of said Green Bay Road) of a point on the north line of Tower Road, three hundred eight (308) feet west of (as measured along said north line of said Tower Road) the southeast corner of Block 12, Hubbard Estate Sub- division; thence southeasterly in said Green Bay Road, and said Green Bay Road as widened, to and connecting with the existing macadam pavement in said Tower Road, at a line twenty-one and five-tenths (21.5) feet south of said ordinance heretofore passed therefor, will be received by the Board of Local Improvements of the Village of Win- netka by or before eight o'clock P. M., on Tuesday, the nineteenth day of June, A. D. 1928, at which hour all bids will be opened at a meeting to be held in the Council Chamber of the Village Hall, in the said Village of Winnetka, Cook County, Illinois. The specifications of said improve- ment are on file in the office of the Clerk of said Village of Winnetka. . Contractors will be paid in bonds bear- ing interest at the rate of five per cent (5%) per annum for all estimates ap- proved by the Board of Local Improve- ments in the sum of One Hundred Dol- lars ($100.00) and over and when the amount of balance due on any estimate is less than the sum of One Hundred Dollars ($100.00), the same will be paid by time warrants. In addition to the usual bond for construction and main- tenance in the sum equal to one-third of the amount of the bid accepted by said Board, the successful bidder will be required to furnish an indemnity and defense policy in some reliable company, indemnifying the Village of Winnetka against loss from liability for damages on account of injury or death suffered by any person or persons, by reason of the performance of the work required to be performed by the said contractor, by any person or persons, including such liability imposed under the employers' liability - and workmen's compensation law of the State of Illinois, and the amendments thereof, in the sum of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00) for injury or death to any one person, nor less than Twenty Thousand Dollars ($20,000.00) for injury or death to more than one person in any one accident. The easterly gutter line at the beginning of said proposed combined curb and gutter shall be tangent to the existing easterly gutter line from the north, in said Green Bay Road; by clearing, grubbing, excavating, draining, grading, raking the parkways, prepar- ing the subgrade to receive the concrete pavement and combined curb and gutter, adjusting valve vault covers, adjusting macadam pavement in Green Bay Road and Tower Read, moving an electric light pole, furnishing one (1) new catch- basin cover, removal of trees, construct- ing one (1) new catchbasin with cover, constructing and relocating sidewalks and sidewalk approaches, adjusting ex- isting walks, constructing concrete com- bined curb and gutter, constructing a concrete island twenty-two (22) feet wide at the west end, five (5) feet wide at the east end, and forty-two (42) feet long, with corners rounded along curved lines having the following radii; the east corner having a radius of three (3) feet, the northwest corner having a radius of four (4) feet, and the southwest corner having a radius of ten (10) feet; con- structing a reinforced concrete pave- ment, the center line of which in Green Bay Road and southeasterly in Tower Road, shall follow a curved line convex southwesterly having a radius of three hundred (300) feet, and the center line in said Green Bay Road and southwest- erly in said Tower Road, shall follow on curved line convex easterly having a radius of forty-two and five-tenths (42.5) feet. The width of said pavement shall be twenty-one (21) feet, except at said island where said pavement shall be widened as follows: at the northwest | corner of said island where it shall be: widened along a curved line convex northwesterly having a radius of six (6) feet; at the southwest corner of said island where it shall be widened along a curved line convex southwesterly hav- ing a radius of twelve (12) feet, and at the east corner of said island, where it shall be widened along a curved line convex easterly having a radius of five (5) feet; including curing, protecting, cleaning said proposed 'concrete pave- ment, and combined curb and gutter, re- moval of all surplus excavated material, and cost of engineering services, all within the Village of Winnetka, County of Cook and State of Illinois, said im- provement and assessment being other- wise known as Winnetka Special Assess- ment No. 463,984, in accordance with the IREDALE FIREPROOF WAREHOUSES at EVANSTON, WINNETKA, HIGHLAND PARK - Winnetka 1332 STORAGE MURRAY & TERRY 117 acres with private 23 acre lake set in beautiful wooded hill.
