STEFFENS 723 OAK ST. WINNETKA,ILL. MRS. C. C. CURTIS DIES Mrs. Charles C. Curtis, mother of Mrs. Walter O. Wilson, 760 Bryant avenue, Winnetka, and widow of the late founder of the Fine Arts building, died Sunday in her home at 1404 Astor street after a brief illness. Mrs. Curtis was a pioneer resident of Chicago. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. James Hall Marshall, of Boston, and James Curtis of Chicago. Mrs. Marshall came from Boston for the funeral. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 at 1404 Astor street. Winn. 1848 HUBBARD WOODS Rentals Egyptian Play Feature Of Closing Assembly Children of the Hubbard Woods school have been holding a series of special assembly programs during this week, their final week of school for the semester. An Egyptian play was presented by the fourth grade at the assembly Mon- day morning. The children made an Egyptian temple, Egyptian scenery, and Egyptian costumes for this play, which was a demonstration of their last unit of work for the school term. On Tuesday the primary rooms en- tertained with little plays, and at the Thursday assembly a song written in honor of the outgoing sixth grade class was sung. The Thursday as- sembly was in the form of a farewell to the sixth grade students at Hub- bard Woods, who will enter the Skokie junior high school department next year. First Scandinavian Ev. Mr. and Mrs. Charles R. Jacobs, 368 Elder lane, with their daughter, Lucy, and son, Charles, Jr., are leaving Mon- day for Quebec. They will sail from there on June 23, to spend the summer in Europe, returning some time in September. Washburne to Teach Summer Classes at Minnesota University Carleton Washburne, superintendent of the Winnetka Public schools, will conduct a demonstration school at the University of Minnesota this sunimer to train teachers in individual tech- nique a3 it is practiced in the Win- netka schools. He will be assisted by Miss Hazel Hartwell, of the Horace Mann school, and by Miss Lila Graham and Mrs. Mildred Hughes, of the Hubbard Woods school. Miss Hartwell will have charge of the fifth and sixth grade demonstrations, Miss Graham of the third and fourth grades, and Mrs. Hughes of the first and second grades. Mr. Washburne has directed similar demonstrations before, but this is the first time that the complete demon- stration for the six grades has been carried out. The teachers who study under Mr. Washburne will do practice teaching and observation and will at- tend his lectures and conferences. Superintendent Washburne will also have charge of a class for school ad- ministrators and supervisors. HOLD ANNUAL CLASS PARTY The eighth grade graduating class at the Skokie school held its annual class party and dance at the school gym- nasium Thursday night. Dave Frankel and his orchestra furnished music for the dance. Miss T,uella Swartz, teacher in the Hubbard Woods school, will spend the summer at her home in River Falls, Wis. --0e The J.
