ww bi July 7, 1928 WINNETKA TALK 11 Sell Tickets Now for Sousa Band Concerts Plans for the concerts to be given in Patten gymnasium on September 22 by Sousa and his band are progressing successfully, and numerous ticket sales, as well as reservations of seats, already have been made. The Associate alumnae of Northwestern university and the Evanston League of Women Voters, both of which or- ganizations are sponsoring the con- certs, have been assured that the great wooden floor will be laid in the gymnasium as early as August 15, and that it will be ready and awaiting the afternoon and evening performances of the band on the 22nd. Music during the afternoon concert will be suitable for children, the eve- ning program being arranged for adults. Blocks of seats, not under twenty- five and not over fifty, are being taken by groups of persons through- out the city, in order that friends may be together. These seats will be held until within fifteen minutes of the con- certs, To facilitate the making of reser- vations by the general public, Mrs. U. S. Grant has tickets on sale at the Commercial Trust and Savings Bank, 701 Davis street, Evanston. Representing the Associate alumnae of the university, the following mem- bers have tickets for sale: Mesdames E. R. Ladd, A. O. Parmelee, R. G. Breedon, G. B. Denton, Ira West- brook, G. A. Paddock, A. C. Fry, J. S. Lewis, E. A. Schulze, C. L. Barker, Wirt Humphrey, E. B. Fowler, S. H. Gilbert, Walter Schinz, S. H. Trues- dell, Leland Pierson, Otto Sussland, and the Misses Eleanor Lewis, Helen Nixon, Dorothy Mohr, Louise Paullin, Wren Staley, and Lorraine Barker. Representing the Evanston League of Women Voters the following are selling tickets: Mesdames Arne Old- berg, G. H. Tomlinson, J. A. Odell, R. L. Davis, H. W, Price, E. H. Verrall, H. N. Camp, Gerald Leuck, E. I.. Mid- dleton, R. H. McColl, J. IL. Swihart, Palmer Brown, M. S. Davidson, E. B. Fowler, Harvey FEdwards, and the Misses Frances Falz, Daisy Sandidge, Dorothy Lewis, Ruth Erickson and Martha Bennett. Mrs. W. T. Hall, president of the Associate alumnae, and Mrs. Martin Kent Northam, president of the Evans- ton League of Women Voters, are heading the plans for the concerts. Both of the organizations represented by them are to be beneficiaries. The alumnae will contribute their share to the proposed Woman's building for the Evanston campus. The longest train ever hauled in the United States was recently operat- ed from South Pekin to Nelson, Ill. There were 195 boxcars in the train, which was made up to test a new loco- motive of the Chicago and North Western railway. Slaves were first sold in Illinois in 1719, y Dr. Norman L. Reynolds Dies at Warsaw, Indiana Dr. Norman Leslie Reynolds, brother of Mrs. George Karnes, 151 Fuller lane, Winnetka, died suddenly last Sunday afternoon at his home in Warsaw, Ind. after returning from Warsaw Country club where he had been playing golf. Dr. Reynolds was formerly of Chicago. The funeral services at Warsaw on Tuesday afternoon were conducted by the Masonic lodge. The body was then brought to Chicago and brief funeral services were held at Rosehill cemetery, conducted by the Rev. James Austin Richards. Burial was at Rosehill. BRAUN ON VACATION Postmaster Joseph C. Braun, of the Winnetka postoffice, will leave with his family on a vacation tour to Minnesota next Monday, July 9. On the Atlantic Transport liner Minnetonka, which arrived at New York on Monday, June 25, from Lon- don, was Herbert Pope of 41 Indian Hill road, who has been traveling in Italy, Switzerland, France, and Eng- land for the past three months. Clayton Paulson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert W. Paulson of 1155 Chatfield road, left Thursday, July 5, for camp.
