But Scouts are not only concerned about their own health and safety but a nation-wide move is on to help in- sure the safety of young children. In a bulletin issued from local Scout head- quarters last week, Scout Executive Walter McPeek asks every Scout to help to build a better understanding and appreciation of the importance of safety of children at crossings. Thursday, June 21, Daniel Carter Beard, national Scout commissioner, celebrated his 78th birthday. He is spending the summer in personal charge of his own camp at Rowlands, Pa. Scout Executive Walter McPeek of the North Shore Area council, Boy Scouts of America, re- ceived the following telegram last Fri- day morning: "Good Scouting, good luck and love to the boys and officials of the North Shore Area council, from their national Scout commissioner Dan Beard." This telegram came in re- sponse to a night letter sent him, read- ing: "927 Scouts, their leaders, friends and parents send you greetings on your birthday. American boys everywhere look up to you, admire you, love you and rejoice with you as you grow younger." it ourselves!
