KASPAR, Wilmette 2995 Highest and Best in Culture to Be Shown at 1933 World's Fair "Whereas, all that is highest and best in the culture of the world will be gathered at Chicago in 1933 to cele- brate the one hundredth anniversary of the incorporation of this city." That preamble to a resolution re- cently adopted by the Press club of Chicago states in a few words the vi- sion for 1933 that is being transformed into reality for the centennial celebra- tion. Recruits for the World's Fair legion are coming in from more distant points than ever. Especially does the Mid- West display its approval of the five dollar enrollment campaign. Distant cities and foreign nations are uniting to aid in the greatest project of its kind ever attempted. For instance, the city of Erie, Pa., will loan to Chicago for the centennial the world famous warship Niagara, Commodore Perry's flagship, in the Battle of Lake Erie. Remember? "We have met the enemy and they are ours"! For one hundred years the Niagara lay at the bottom of the lake. Today it is restored and is at anchor in the harbor of Erie. James Simpson, chairman of the Chi- cago Plan commission, has pictured a super-city in a communication to the centennial trustees, in which he pledges the unwavering support of his com- mission. Sauganash and Wabansia, famous Pottawattamie chiefs, and Shabona, who rode through the Fox River val- ley warning the settlers of Black Hawk's last raid, will all be portrayed by present day Indians in a series of historic pageants. These will vie with the "last word" in scientific achieve- ment in a mighty ensemble, which, un- der present plans, will be viewed alike by millions of Americans, and by at least eight of the crowned heads.
